Expert: What You Need to Know about the Oroville Dam Crisis
PeakProsperity ^ | February 13, 2017 | Adam Taggart

To make sense of the fast-developing situation at California's Oroville Dam, Chris spoke today with Scott Cahill, an expert with 40 years of experience on large construction and development projects on hundreds of dams, many of them earthen embankment ones like the dam at Oroville. Scott has authored numerous white papers on dam management, he's a FEMA trainer for dam safety, and is the current owner of Watershed Services of Ohio which specializes in dam projects across the eastern US. Suffice it to say, he knows his "dam" stuff.

Scott and Chris talk about the physics behind the failing spillways at Oroville, as well as the probability of a wider-scale failure from here as days of rain return to California.

Oroville is one of the best-managed and maintained dams in the country.

No, it isn't. The evidence is on the news lately. It is in the top 100% however.

My brother isn’t a dam expert, but he’s a concrete expert. I asked him if the Oroville would fail and he said if the water tops the spillway one more time, it definitely will. Said those 5 years of no water in the lake have compromised the integrity and dried everything out. Now add maximum stress. That, plus poor maintenance.

Yes, you. Go to the chalkboard and put your noses in those little circles.

LOL

Hah! That's nothing. How about "stand in the corner in the wastebasket holding a dictionary in each outstretched arm"!

(Been there, done that).

“Lawsuits would put it back on the Feds since Oroville came under the Federal inspections. “

The Feds (FERC) has withheld the operating permit for this dam for the last 10 years due to non-compliance. CA simply refused to spend the money to fix it.

I don't know, but it is time to think outside the box.

Well, then we are in DEEP $HIT.

The ONLY politician I've ever heard of that thinks "outside the box" is Trump.

And the MSM only call him a "politician" because he was elected, even though he is NOT.

He's simply a STRONG LEADER.

I know, I don't know what the answer is, but, it sure ain't politicians. We need to keep them out of the loop, and put it in the hands of engineers, and let them figure it out.

Remember Apollo 13? Morton's engineers said it was too cold for the o-rings in the rockets, but the politicians said to launch anyway. They ended up with three astronauts in a crippled spaceship and not enough oxygen to get back. They put the engineers in a room and let them figure it out. They got 'er done. OUTSIDE THE BOX!! The ultimate revenge of the nerds.

Only call Moonbeam to cough up the money.
