Ideology: A whimsical definition of a gaffe is "when a politician accidentally speaks the truth." By that measure, former Virginia Senator Jim Webb committed a gaffe of huge proportions over the weekend.
On "Meet the Press", Webb admitted that the Democratic Party has no ideas to offer, that it's determined to destroy the Trump administration and here's the gaffe that "the Democratic Party over the past five or six years has moved very far to the left."
To which we say, welcome to the party, pal.
For many years now, while the pundit class has been busy painting Republicans as radical, out-of-touch extremists, we were pouring over polling data (both ours and others) and voting records, and we found that it's Democrats who have drifted well out of the mainstream on a wide variety of issues.
The latest IBD/TIPP polls reconfirm this, which can be readily seen when you compare Democrats' views to those of swing voters.
More than half of independents (55%), for example, back Trump's temporary suspension of refugees coming into the country. Just 17% of Democrats do.
Almost three quarters of Democrats approved the Obama administration's abstention on the UN vote attacking Israeli settlements. Only 40% of independents did.

One......doubt if he is totally sane anyway....he USED to be a Republican, then Indy, now Democrat....geesh.
That's not going to change under Pelosi and Schumer either.
Sane, maybe... Sub-human filth, definitely.
Are there questions about his personal integrity as well as is bizarre political thinking?
No, he is not sane, he writes novels about putting young boy’s genitals in his characters mouths. Look it up; it is true.
If that’s true (I’m not going to look it up) then he should be very worried that the pizzagate arrests have begun.
Not only was he a Republican, he was a member of Reagan's cabinet.
I do not trust him, would never vote for him He is a conservative (or blue dog) dem. Explains why his candidacy was short lived
Sane? Nope, not when he joined the Dems from the GOP. You are insane if you switch from the Republican to Dems..
There is no such things as a “sane democrat”.
I remember that well here in Va. Virginia still voted Webb in over George Allen, all because Allen said a monkey word.
Now just how can you justify using the word “sane” and the word “Democrat” in the same sentence?
/s
He was once my senator and he voted with all the democrats for Obamacare. No, he is not sane

Now wait a minute - comparing James Webb to sub-human filth?
James H. Webb Jr. graduated from USNA in 1968, and he also attended Georgetown University where he earned a Juris Doctor degree in 1975. He was the Assistant secretary of defense (reserve affairs) from 1984 to 1987. He was then Secretary of the Navy from April 10th, 1987, until his resignation on February 23rd, 1988. He was elected as a senator for Virginia in 2007.
First Lieutenant, USMC, Navy Cross and Silver Star.
WAY better than some 98% of all Democrats.
Might be instructive if Webb would explain:
1) why he is a member of a party hat has moved so far to the left;
2) why he is not a Republican.
Webb first became a Senator during a period when the Dem leadership, knowing leftists would lose, deliberately ran “moderate” candidates (who avoided gun control, and similar hot button issues), to avoid firing up their opposition. The Dems have moved further to the left, but the real change is that they have cast off the sheep’s clothing they were hiding under. How running overt leftist candidates works out for them remains to be seen, but the change reveals that the Dems believe they have “changed” America.
Dude, a traitor is a traitor, and jw does not have the option of pleading ignorance. The dem party IS the party of treason, and has been for 50 years at least.
Remember, B. Arnold was a great American until he wasn’t.
Oh for heaven’s sake, not this old one again, it was a piece of fiction in which he has one of his character’s witnessing a disturbing ritual that was supposedly prevalent in SE Asia at the time he set his novel.
Webb was writing a piece of gritty fiction, get it? Not writing a report on what he did on is holidays.
He is a former marine who served in Vietnam (unlike Bush) and he made it clear to Bush that he didn’t approve of his sending young men to fight in pointless wars.
An opinion about Bush that many conservatives and indeed Trump voters now share. Webb in that respect was ahead of Trump.
