Federal and state officials have a lot to answer for in the wake of the Oroville Dam fiasco. They decided in 2005 to ignore warnings that the massive earthen spillway adjacent to the dam itself could erode during heavy winter rains which it has done and cause a calamity, which it very nearly did this week and could yet do by the end of this winter.
No less to blame are the water agencies, including the powerful Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, which argued that paying for the upgrades a decade ago was unnecessary.
The 180,000 people forced to evacuate Sunday, running for their lives, beg to differ. Can Californians trust the decision-makers who control state water policy? We would not suggest it.
Californias population of 38.8 million people relies on a 60-year-old water delivery system consisting largely of aging dams and aqueducts that have not been maintained adequately and now are unreliable.
Gov. Jerry Browns obsession with spending $15 billion to dig two Delta tunnels is preventing the state from spending that money to upgrade the Delta levees, the sinking California Aqueduct and doing basic maintenance to the states dams.

California owns the dam.
Blame the Feds? Yeah right. califonicate has control of the dam they just want the Feds to pay for it. NOT A CHANCE!
The Feds were appealed to about fixing the spillway and agreed it didn’t need to be done.
State delayed repairs.
Jerry Brown needs to answer for the dam disaster. He’s the one in charge of setting the idiotic water management policies.
Blame the Feds? Yeah right. califonicate has control of the dam they just want the Feds to pay for it. NOT A CHANCE!
The delta tunnels that Jerry Brown insisted on were to benefit the *environment*.
NO, Algore and Moonbeam are to Blame, they GUARANTEED US this Could Never Happen because of out of control Global Warming, it’s Their Fault!
You can see where this is going. Blame the feds. Bush was president in 2005. Blame state officials. The Terminator was governor of California during that time. Democrats have their two scapegoats. They have their narrative for the Oroville Dam disaster.
If the state delayed necessary repairs, the feds should refuse any emergency payments. Help with evacuation but once the immediate evacuation is over, walk away.
yes we’re going to go back to a Bush administration to blame....figures...
California is an Excess Water Sanctuary State.
Bush’s fault.
Yes so since 2011, the Dems own everything in California....forgot that little nugget. If I was Trump, I would say go pack sand because he had nothing to do with California in 2005 and he shouldn’t put up with being blamed for something out of his control. Fix it yourself California.
Does anyone know if any of the Obama Stimulus funds were appropriated to the dam, but we’re spent on the usual crap like illegals and welfare bums?
Well they needed a high speed train to stop car pollution and global warming . More important.
Is it true that California pays 25 ***BILLION*** a year for illegal aliens?
Yup. Trump should tell Brown that after he has eliminated ALL illegals from CA, then maybe he will consider funds to rebuild damaged sections of the dam.
