On Friday, California Governor Jerry Brown sought federal help from President Trump by asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to declare “a major disaster” in California in light of the damage done by recent storms. The East Bay Times reports: “Brown formally requested the declaration for the series of storms striking the state between Jan. 3 and Jan. 12.” He noted that “heavy rains, winds and snow, particularly in Northern California, left eight people dead and knocked out power to an estimated 1 million Californian homes and businesses.”

Brown’s request comes as Gov. Brown has challenged the Trump administration on climate change, immigration, Obamacare, and other issues.

Anybody here think that Moonbeam will do a Chris Christie and kiss Trump’s ass the way Christy kissed Obama’s after Sandy?

Don’t know. I suspect Austin is one.

There are two “sanctuary states.” Connecticut and NORTH DAKOTA!

California has been a disaster for years, but now they want help? If I were Trump I’d sa ask Mexico.

I say we give him what he needs with fed oversite of the money extended to make the repairs or damages caused with the understanding that a federal investigation will be conducted on how and why this dam was not maintained.

I totally agree. We’re not talking about replenishing a failed housing project for illegals in LA. This is a natural disaster that affects people in the North State.

So glad our daughter moved out of California last year.

After 40 years of living in the Los Angeles area, I moved out of CA in 2015. I miss it a lot, but realize I can never go back to live there again. Between the extremely high cost of living and what the far left has done to the state, it's become a sewer.

Looking through the comments to find one that I agreed with. Give them the money. From a Federal perspective it will be money well spent. It is better to be owed than owe. It would silence a segment and help bring the Nation back together. Now is the time to use reason...not emotion.

“This is a natural disaster that affects...”. It is NOT a natural disaster, it is man made.

Give them relief. And strings. Bring in outsiders to repair. Since the state wasn’t proactive.

The time to negotiate with the plumber isn’t when you’re basement is filling up with water. Trump has him by the short hairs and will be his b!tch for the next 8 years.

We should, of course, help our California brethren who are in trouble. It should be obvious, though, that those living in self designated ‘Sanctuary Cities’ obviously wouldn’t even need help, since they already have cheap foreign laborers to perform the needed help.

That’s half right. Lack of proper planning in Sacramento created the conditions for what has become a natural disaster. Nonetheless, federal funds shouldn’t be withheld.

“Lack of proper planning in Sacramento created the conditions for what has become a natural disaster.” What? Failure of engineering design (capacity) and maintenance is man made. Had man not interceded wth building a huge, concentrated retention basin, rains and snow melt off would not be an issue...the waters would flow where they naturally have flowed for millennia.

I’d say we need to use fed funds for this man made debacle. Certainly the area is probably a conservative stronghold in Kalifornia. I haven’t researched the area but normally land below dams are farm land and those hard working Americans are in their right mind.
