I see too much drought coming over that dam.

The dam may be fine ... today.

But once it fills and starts overflowing, could be a problem.

If the authorities tell you everything is okay, pack your bags and run.

This is actually the spill way. However, with the amount of water going over it, the hole is getting bigger. This hole will in time work its way back to the dam. When that occurs, the dam will go.

It’s just so hard to keep Californians happy. First they complain about not enough snow. Then, too much snow. Not enough water, and then, too much. Too hot. Too cold. Now wind. Then, the Santanas begin and it is too much.

They are never “just right.”

Looks like the spillway’s about 150’ wide.

I wonder how practical it would be to pack the hole full of quick-set cement and bolt a lot of steel plates over it.

Then, seal the edges of the plates with some sort of asphalt, and put an aererator pipe upstream of it to minimize the cavitation/erosion of the water flowing over it.

Update: The Dept. of Water Resources will be holding a meeting tonight (Thurs. 2/9/17) at 6 pm at the Yuba County Government Bldg on the Marysville side of the 10th St. Bridge (the old Montgomery Ward building) so if you know anybody who lives in this area, give them a head's up.

So far the info has been very conflicting. The spillway has washed away, the spillway has not washed away, etc.

As Sacramento is downstream from this dam, if you see Jerry Brown running for the airport, you’ll know the dam is about to fail.

No problem, they’ll be able to rebuild it in no less that 15 years with Chinese concrete.

Apparently they have three ways to shed water from the lake....one is that spillway which is gate controlled....( the one eroding...)..another is a small hydroelectric power plant..the other is another emergency spillway...that isn't controlled.

At least that is what...I heard.

Winki..states just the one spillway....

Sierras are getting pounded with rain, and lots of flooding in low areas.

That's what I'm trying to get to the bottom of.

From what I've been hearing, the emergency spillway is basically over the top of the dam.

Which wouldn't be so disconcerting if it wasn't an earthen dam.

I'll be at the meeting tonight. Hopefully we'll get some straight answers.
