Seem to recall reading a techno-thriller which included an attack on this same facility.

First Fukushima, now this.

Time to replace nuclear energy with clean coal and LNG driven energy.

We (the US) have plenty of both.

Come and get it(after we have completed the energy independence program.)

"Bonjour! Tonight we bring you news of the Mayor's annual flower show and ---" BOOM!

"Alors! Jacques! What is going on??"

"It appears that the nuclear power plant has exploded! Mon dieu!"

"What can you tell us?"

"Well, this is shocking and unexpected. I don't really knpw what to say. But I can tell you 2 things ..."

"Go on -- what can you tell us?"

"Well, it's definitely not terrorism, and there is definitely no risk of a radiation leak."

Authorities have said there is no risk of contamination from an explosion that occurred at EDF’s Flamanville nuclear plant in northern France.

It is hard to believe “authorities” when we all know the first thing they say is usually a lie.

In this case it may be true but if I lived within a few miles of the plant I would be taking a vacation somewhere up wind of it until sure.

As for the cause, I think they should at least spend a few minute investigating before ruling out terrorist.

That was a monstrous blast. For some reason, I am skeptical about this being no big deal.

Probably because every other disaster led to immediate denials and lies by nuke power plants!

That’s a ballsy guy to stand there and make a video of that massive explosion.

I’d have been running in the opposite direction!

If they don’t know the cause, then how can they rule out terrorism, by Muslims or environmental fanatics? “It was an accident, but we have no idea what caused it!”

The experts are assuring us . . . now that’s enough to make me worry.

WTF?

1) That wasn't the 'nuclear' part of the facility.

2) It looked like a petroleum fuel fire ... and maybe LPG tank explosions. Very strange.

It looked like such a peaceful countryside before the major blast. This was very close to the UK. Wow.

“They said the same thing at Chernobyl and Fukushima”

Did you just make that up or you reading it from some anti-nuke site?

“First Fukushima, now this.”

Coal plants use turbine-generators similar to nuke plants. You just don’t hear about their explosions.

Good catch by 1rudeboy that the video doesn’t match the story.

Video (via the Chinese spoken) appears to be from a Chinese explosion.

I saw the story and video together and may have gotten taken by it. Will wait for further confirmation.

That was certainly no ‘minor’ explosion in the video!

.
And France is about the most experienced in operating nuclear power plants. I understand that approximately 60% of their energy needs is generated by nuclear fuel. They should be the first ones to know what actually happened. With world terrorism being prevalent, nuclear energy should not be their first choice. France is going to regret it, bigly.
