Sen. McCain should not be talking about the success or failure of a mission to the media. Only emboldens the enemy! He's been losing so.......long he doesn't know how to win anymore, just look at the mess our country is in - bogged down in conflict all over the place.

Our hero....Ryan died on a winning mission ( according to General Mattis), not a "failure." Time for the U.S. to get smart and start winning again!

I get the fact that Trump poorly chose his words when attacking McCain's war record. I chalk it up to a rookie mistake. A more polished and practiced politician would never have uttered those words. But then again, that was part of Trump's appeal, was it not? That he spoke plainly with no pretense of political correctness - even if his words were sometimes hurtful to some.

But I ask another question. At what point does "hero worship" end and accountability begin? I do not feel that being a war hero - assuming that McCain is one - should give you a lifetime pass. At some point, you need to be judged on what you are doing today and not what you did half a century ago.

McCain's performance as a senator has been abysmal, disloyal and embarrassing. Don't forget that he was caught in senate chambers playing video poker on his cellphone during a hearing on Syria.

Yes, video poker! That alone tells me the man has been in the senate for too long and needs to be put out to pasture. He obviously does not take his job all that seriously.

I've worked in the private sector all my life and I can tell you that any employee would be escorted from the premises if he was caught playing video games during an important company meeting.

Also in the private sector, you are judged on what you've done lately. Not what you did years ago. A few years ago, I helped bring in a multi-million dollar national account for my company. I was a hero at the time. But nobody talks about that today. I wasn't able to ride that success for the rest of my career. Now it's about what accounts I helped bring in lately and if I haven't brought in any, I need to have an action plan to correct it.

Absolutely agree with you on many points. McCain and his partner are a disaster in the Senate.

I respect all our veterans, dead and living, as I am sure that you do. I call them hero’s because I consider them to be hero’s. Not just the tortured ones, even though none of us here could ever stand the thought of anyone being tortured while in service of our country.

So, my reply was directed only in regard to his service as a Veteran and Trump’s lewd, crude, comment that he was not a war hero. That was so over the top that it still baffles my mind and makes me angry.

MCCain’s assertion that the mission was a failure because a life was loSt is also over the top. I don’t blame President Trump for calling him out on it.

I promise you that do not support MCCain’s views on anything much at all. I certainly do not have any type of hero worship thing.

just how much did McCain “suffer” compared to other prisoners?He was treated with favoratism because of his father’s position. His physical problems are a result of his crash, not from torture. He was outside of his approved flight area which led to his crash and capture. Had he been following orders he would not have been where he was and would not have crashed and been captured.
I don’t consider him a hero because his own actions led to his problems. He has long since used up any credit he might have been due for his service. Thousands of other unsung heroes deserve more.

There was a time when I considered lord McCain a ‘hero’... But a hero, would never helped JfreakingKerry hide the MIA’s from their loved ones. lord McCain has much to answer for, and I will leave that judgment up to the Creator. Good point. I respect McCain’s service about as much as I respect the service of Benedict Arnold before he turned traitor. Due to their behavior afterward, neither of these Quislings deserve any respect. Even the British did not respect Arnold. No one likes a 5th columnist traitor.
