The Trump administration is poised to move quickly to approve major weapons packages for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain that President Obama blocked during his final months in office over human rights concerns in both nations, U.S. officials and congressional sources say.

I have a question for everyone. After we do this suicide deal of selling arms to our enemies in Saudi Arabia, will President Trump pull GW out of mothballs to seal it with a kiss?

Just curious.

Well I agree - there is a third option of bankrupting the Saudis so they can’t buy weapons from anyone - and if we keep on fracking, we might succeed in that. But that’s the future - not the present.

Locally, the animal control department has decided to stop capturing and euthanizing stray cats. Instead, they are capturing and sterilizing them.

The reason?

No matter how many stray cats they kill, there’s always another stray cat to take their place. Its never ending.

However, if they sterilize the cats and let them live, new contenders have to fight the old ones for territory - ie let them kill each other.

I think the same applies to the middle east. If we turned Saudi Arabia to glass, a new cat would just fill the void. I’d rather let them kill each other.

So Saudi Arabia—the country that all of the 9/11 murderers came from, that was not included in Trump’s immigration ban, and that owns the entire 45th floor of Trump World Tower—has been okayed by Trump to buy lots of fabulous weapons from the U.S. What could go wrong?

Great analogy.
And this should be our exact policy.
However, we don’t need to favor one side over the other by giving either side arms and technology and ‘training’.

Let them fight it out without all our stuff.

I know just about everyone is opposed to this because we make a hell of a lot of money selling our stuff (not just armaments but all manner of things including training). This will hurt virtually everyone in one way or another financially. But it is the right thing to do.

It unconscionable sending our men and women to fight against people we armed and trained. Which is what we have done. This is as good as killing our own people.

You say that like no other country could possibly be turned to glass.

I bet after the seventh or eighth one the rest would forswear violence as a means of spreading their faith.

Let them spread the word in the battlefield of ideas, if they can...

“It unconscionable sending our men and women to fight against people we armed and trained”

The arms sales in question is missiles and F-16s. I not believe the Saudis or any of their surrogates have used this against us.

Yes, ISIS soldiers we trained in infantry tactics have killed American soldiers...but that is an entirely different scenario, where we went on a ‘nation building’ excursion. This arms sale is very different.

The more we use 21st century technology against the middle east, the more they use 7th century tactics against the wet.

Lets say we did turn 7-8 nations into glass...the survivors would continue to infiltrate Europe, spreading sharia law, chopping off heads, etc. Its a cancer - its very hard to kill the bad cells without hurting the host body.

Realistically - the US will not turn the middle east into glass. Realistically...looking at the actual situation and what nations have the will to do...the middle east represents a few spaces on a chess board - and the Russians and even Chinese are taking over those spaces. And, in case you haven’t noticed what the Russians have done with gas sales to Europe, they seem to have a habit of using natural resources to gain influence in the world. So, should we fantasize about blowing up the middle east, or should we deal with the actual situation and not relinquish all control in the region?

Yet.
We have a habit of selling arms and training to countries that we eventually have to go up against.

Obama administration offered $115b billion in weapons to Saudi Arabia: report 8 September 2016

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/08/obama-administration-offered-115-billion-weapons-saudi-arabia-report

His report found that since taking office in January 2009, the Obama administration has offered to sell $115bn in weapons to Saudi Arabia, half of which are accounted for by deals that are still in the pipeline.

“There are $57bn in sales in formal agreements so far, which is also head and shoulders above other administrations,” Hartung said.

Arms sales over the eight years of the Obama administration have also included combat aircraft, attack helicopters, bombs, air-to-ground missiles, warships and military training. A division of Northrop Grumman is involved in a $4bn train-and-equip programme for the Saudi Arabian national guard, which has reportedly played a key role in the Yemen intervention.

_________

So did these deals go through or not? Are there parts of these deals that are left over and Trump is honoring them? The article is unclear as are claims that Obama backed out of some of these deals in December 2016.

There is also a fourth option: sell the Saudis weapons, pull our troops out of harms way and let the Middle East either blow itself up or stockpile, while we use the money for our infrastructure.

The Saudis could use these weapons against Europe, but most likely they would use them against Iran.

I say would because this is most likely more fake news...

“These are significant sales for key allies in the Gulf who are facing the threat from Iran and who can contribute to the fight against the Islamic State,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Whereas the Obama administration held back on these, they’re now in the new administration’s court for a decision — and I would anticipate the decision will be to move forward.”

Another anonymous source..yea whatever.

The Pentagon also declined to comment. But congressional sources said they anticipate the Trump administration will easily overcome resistance on Capitol Hill,

Yet more anonymous sources...kiss my a*s.

In reality the US needs to push conflict between the Saudi’s and Iran, the sunni and shia. Both are bat crap crazy and hate the west. I would rather see these goat humpers fighting each other than US. Divide and conquer.

IMHO Trump is trying to checkmate the expansionist moves of Iran. Right now the battle ground is Yemen and of course Iraq and Syria.

Supposedly these arms include nuclear technology (to offset Iran?) and guidance systems and air defense. Being pushed by Cohn, McMaster and Dina.

We really needed.need Mike Flynn. The Left & Obama really put a dagger in our heart when they prompted Trump to fire Flynn so blythly. Trump is now surrounded by traitors, the elite and globalists.
