American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten is paid 10 times as much money as the average teacher, according to new federal labor filings.

Weingarten earned nearly $560,000 in total compensation during the 2013-2014 school year, according to Department of Labor filings. That figure includes a total salary of $375,174 for the year, as well as more than $180,000 in additional benefits and expenses.

The $50,300 she collected in “allowances disbursed,” which cover unnamed perks indirectly related to business, was just $6,000 less than the average teacher earned for the 2012-2013...

Those union thugs sure do make a lot more than their mafia predecessors used to make.

Everyone who has anything to do with approving salaries like this are getting a lot themselves.

The biggest surprise to me in this story is that Randi Weingarten is still alive.

Wow, so then actually it really isn;t about the teachers, but about union members keeping their jobs.

Weingarten. Not “Weinstein”.

"Oh yeah, she loves the kids.😆" Comment from a previous thread: “It’s hard to forget former National Education Association (NEA) General Counsel Bob Chanin’s farewell address during the 2009 NEA national convention. “It is not because we care about children; and it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child,” Chanin boasted. “The NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power.” “Sadly, the education unions’ foremost concern is not the needs of children. As former American Federation of Teachers president Al Shanker infamously quipped: “When school children start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of school children.” http://dailysignal.com/2011/07/02/nea-convention-reminds-us-it%E2%80%99s-about-union-power-not-children/

She only pockets the money because she loves the children. Any of her relatives also on the payroll?

Oh yeah, she loves the kids.

You mean that in addition to being a corrupt union thug, she's a child molester too? Or does she mean she loves kids for dinner.

The "progressive" meme never includes an acknowledgement of that movement's decades-long coercive role in creating an environment for such constitutional ignorance, violence and chaos as we are seeing today.

That so-called "liberal/progressive" movement intentionally diminished the role of parents and schools in teaching students about their Creator-endowed rights and responsibilities, their individual role as citizens in their communities, and the character training which once was the goal and aim of education in America

Do older readers of this thread remember when such character training was a part of the school day? Do any now retired teachers remember when the National Education Association provided booklets and other materials based on Biblical teachings and America's founding documents in order to teach children their rights and responsibilities as good citizens?

Perhaps an examination of this web site may refresh the minds of such teachers. Or, perhaps a reading of this factual account of NEA publications may enlighten others who are younger to understand the degree to which the "progressive" control of education in America may have contributed to our current dilemma.
