Liberal icon Elizabeth Warren has emerged as the scourge of the Trump administration, grilling the president’s Cabinet nominees at every chance and coming out against Supreme Court pick Neil Gorsuch within minutes of his nomination.
The moves are what one might expect from a presidential aspirant. But Warren, who is placed in the top tier of likely Democratic 2020 candidates in very-early polls, first has to keep her Massachusetts Senate seat. It’s not a sure thing.
According to WBUR poll, just 44 percent of state voters think she deserves re-election, while a plurality – 46 percent – believes she doesn’t deserve a second term. Overall, Warren has a 51 percent favorability rating in the deep blue state.
Republicans are ready to pounce – looking not only to reclaim the seat held, briefly, by GOP Sen. Scott Brown, but potentially sideline a future White House contestant.
“She is absolutely vulnerable. When she should be working for the people of the state, she is spending her time antagonizing the president,” Massachusetts Republican state Rep. Geoff Diehl, who is considering a 2018 Senate run, told Fox News. “She might as well be running for chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.”
Diehl was co-chairman of President Trump’s Bay State campaign last year and gained statewide notoriety in 2014 leading a successful referendum to halt gas tax hikes.
Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, a conservative talk radio host, also is considering running – though how serious, or viable, he is remains unclear. A Suffolk University poll last October found Warren leading Schilling by 58-24 percent.
A UMass Amherst poll last September found Warren would be in a statistical dead heat with either Republican Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito or former Republican Gov. Bill Weld – though it’s unlikely either Polito or Weld would run.

Every Senator is a national politician now and none of them (or very few of them) represent their state. The 17th amendment was a very bad idea. If not then, then certainly now with the digital revolution. At this point the state doesn’t really have a representative and as such the separation of branches is really not in full force. There are two bodies of congress who represent “The people” and this is being so badly manipulated that you may as well get rid of the Senate all together.
Sorry to inform you, but it will be Kamala Harris. She has all the bona fides of Obama, PLUS she’s a woman and was actually the elected AG of California. I sure hope California secedes before she can be foisted on us via the ignorant Leftist voters (legal, illegal and dead).

It's up to the 'pubs to choose a candidate who gets it, about that streak of independence in most MA voters.
It isn't just the dems. Both political parties have moved along candidates whom they can control.
Occasionally, an exception does overcome that, Joni Ernst and that HOR Hawaiian HOR rep come to mind. Could it be that we might do well by wanting female candidates with a military background? Just letting my thoughts ramble here...
More than her electability, the senate race will illustrate how much warren actually believes in the integrity of elections. My guess: zero.
Scott Brown has moved from Massachusetts to New Hampshire.
Curt Shilling should have run when Scott Brown did, Shilling was well known and liked then, compared to the unknown Scott Brown.
But now I believe Shilling has picked up too many negatives since then in his business dealings.
The Republicans should cross both Brown and Shilling off their list.
