The United States Cannot Survive as Presently Constituted
American Thinker ^ | Feb. 6, 2017 | Michael Philosof

“With slight shades of difference,” wrote George Washington in 1796, Americans “have the same religion, manners, habits and political principles.

That is no longer true."

The soft civil war has already begun. Take away the funding and things may settle down.

Yes, it began back in the 60’s. It ramped up to a fever pitch in the late 60’s but went back down to a simmer after Nixon was elected but it never stopped. I thought that Carter’s reign would slip into a ‘hot’ civil war based on racial lines. But Reagan winning stopped that almost immediately.

I know that might seem hard to believe but I witnessed it. I had to travel to major cities on a fairly regular basis and it was really weird... almost like a light switch had been put in the off position.

I saw the simmering tensions being prodded under Clinton’s time as President and it really never stopped. Only now instead of just a racial component there is a Religious component too.

In all of that time I really never noticed that much of the tensions had a real root in economic unhappiness. I see that now, and I believe that President Trump’s, (Dear Lord that feels so good to say!), concentration on Jobs and industry returning from overseas will also have the benefit of reducing those tensions once again.

Of course, designating Soros’ Open Societies Foundation as a terrorist organization, thus freezing its U.S. accounts, would go a long way toward settling things down. I’m sure there is credible evidence that this society is funding Antifa and other radical organizations.

But I won’t hold my breath.

That is a fact!
I believe the uptick was in response the possibility of certain firearms being banned. JMHO.

Unfortunately, the majority of people have gone to seed.
Bread and circus, etc.

No friend not true. Vast swaths of flyover country is decimated...industry lost long ago replaced by opioids and cartels of one sort or another.

Ride your scoot cross country from the east coast to Sturgis, staying on the back roads. You'll see.

aaaaHh..... but the refugees become political slaves within these urban utopias. That would be the good refugees. The bad refugees kill off part of the excess.

Its different now.

I believe the Republic is done. The sane thing to do at this point is to structure a division. People can go to their political half.

Unless they do this, there will be a war.

Social media certainly fans the flames but I think this is mostly a result of 40 years of socialist control of our education system.

I think the article is ridiculous. The Constitution was made difficult to amend to keep pols from changing it every year.

We are watching the destruction of the Demo party rather than a constitutional problem.

I have traveled the country on back roads from east to west and back several times. I traveled the Great River Road from north to south mostly on old hiways. I have traveled the National Hiway, the first federal hiway. I have traveled the Butterfield Trail, the route of the first overland mail contract. I have been in all states except Hawaii twice and most several times. I know America from being there.

The American essence is still there unlike the urban areas where it is no place to be, much less live.

I’m not sure we were meant to know what friends, family and neighbors think about any given subject instantly and in discrete little blurbs, much less some stranger on the other side of the planet.

We always think technological innovations are positive, especially with respect to information technology. Yet they could have side effects that we are slow to recognize and understand. The “Black Mirror” series brilliantly expounds on this theme.

Gee I think we reached this conclusion about 10 years ago on Free Republic. Big Punditry™ is finally catching.

very few will return fire. . .

The recent election suggests otherwise. So does the experience of the Civil War, where brothers joined different sides. I'd say we have an excess of opportunity for "returning fire" among family today, because family doesn't mean nearly as much today as it did in 1861.

Media and the DEM leadership magnify those worst elements, but I’d venture to say 90% of people generally accept him as President and are ready to move on with life.

Tribal politics, that era is OVER. PROOF: President Trump WON IN A MASSIVE LANDSLIDE WIN.

Hillary won the popular vote by 3 million. It marked the sixth time in the last seven elections that the Dems won the popular vote.

According to the exit polls, minorities still voted overwhelmingly for Hillary 74% to 21%. The Rep base is the non-Hispanic white vote, which voted 57% to 37% for Trump.

Trump won because he challenged the establishments of both parties. It is doubtful that any other Rep candidate could have beaten Hillary.

The reality is that those votes come from VOTER FRAUD, via the illegals and the dead.

The problem is that we cannot dissolve the Union peacefully.
Our differences are not regional, but Urban vs. Suburban and Rural.
The problem is right up the highway and sitting on the intersections of the highways and interstates.
