Supreme Court Fight Is More About Trump Than Gorsuch
New York Times ^ | FEB. 2, 2017 | CARL HULSE

This is a rare Supreme Court confirmation fight that will be more about the nominator than the nominee.

In light of President Trump’s selection of Judge Neil M. Gorsuch just as the new president’s aggressive and contested use of executive power came into view, Democrats intend to aggressively question whether Judge Gorsuch will hold in check the man who seeks to elevate him to the nation’s most influential court.

Democrats believe a unique sequence of events — issuing a constitutionally questionable executive order on Friday, firing an acting attorney general who refused to defend it on Monday and nominating a Supreme Court justice on Tuesday — places executive overreach and separation of powers squarely at the center of the confirmation debate.

Neil Gorsuch is an excellent Supreme Court nominee who should immediately be confirmed.

Democrats admit that their opposition to Gorsuch is about sabotaging the Trump presidency. Democrats admit they have no reason to deny Gorsuch the nomination.

Democrats have abandoned their obligation to advise and consent. All they want to do is sabotage Trump.

There's a transgender case in March. A 4/4 decision upholds use of bathroom contrary to "parts".

Of course the Dems don't want Gorsuch seated.

Lol at the NY Times talking how President Trump’s executive order on immigration and refugees is “unconstitutional”. These people are unhinged.

Mr Hulse acts as though President Trump is the first POTUS ever to nominate a SCOTUS pick who reflects their ideology.

Indeed. This isn’t about the candidate. It is solely about Trump and how the left feels that they effed up and lost. It would be the same for any nominee.

What has to happen is that the nomination (and all the others) have to be bulldozed with sheer power and these losers be put in the place they belong.

Democrats had signs with the name blank ready to fill in. Didn’t matter who it was.

Judge Neil M. Gorsuch will not get the nomination unless the House invokes the nuke option. And with this current Republican control of the House and Senate, it will never happen.

Complete unlike the Clarence Thomas nomination fight, the Robert Bork nomination fight, the Douglas Ginsburg nomination fight, the Samuel Alito nomination fight...

It is all about the Democrats fund raising off of their far left-wing base.

They are not accomplishing anything...all they are is a pain in the ass. They will pay in the 2018 midterm election.

Draning the swamp is going to be much easier than anybody (except President Trump) thought.

Ignoring the law and the Constitution is common for liberals. Trump knows how to make these people line up for prison. And they are putting their names on the indictments without any extra work.

Political commentator Erick Erickson....”received a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and a law degree from Mercer’s Walter F. George School of Law and is an inactive member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erick_Erickson

I think Erick would be a fine choice for an associate justice.

Senate Democrats will just grandstand some for their base, but ultimately, will provide the votes needed to obtain sixty votes for cloture.

Same stuff with Alito's confirmation.
