Interesting you'd bring up Denny Hastert. Two things.
One, allegations of his being a pedophile and liking young men dogged him his entire political career in Yorkville, IL There was a significant (albeit unproven) whispering campaign that went on FOR YEARS that Denny Hastert liked teenage boys.
I'm not kidding.
In 1994 I dogged him his entire time during the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival in Sycamore, IL At that time he was running for re-election, the same year the Republican's took the House and Senate away from BJ Clinton. I followed Hasterts car the entire parade route screaming at the top of my lungs about his paying his "Democrat opponents" to run against him, making the district's election a sham, and asked him how many little boys he molested that day.
Fast forward to April 27th of last year when Hastert arrived in Federal Court (across the street from where I work ...) for his sentencing, in a wheel chair he'd never needed before, or since:
I stood across the street as I could not get any closer than that, thanks to the DHS clowns there to protect him, and screamed at the top of my lungs again about his being a pedophile who liked young boys and how he'd rot in hell for what he did. As the soon to be ex husband of a woman who was raped repeatedly by a pedophile while she was young, you can bet there was alot of emotion coming out on my part and I let loose with everything I had. I've seen up close and personal the damage monsters like Hastert and those like him have caused, and not just on their direct victims, all the indirect victims later on in life.
You can say pedophilia is a method and not an outcome all you want. I've lived the outcome of it. It isn't pretty, no matter what the method that was used.
