Yeah, I guess I am a little...it's just that I have had 'hoagies' made by
former Philly guys in other cities that are not close to what I would call a
hoagie...and this is in DC afterall...they screw up everything down there. ;~)

I googled it and it says he opened in 1969, and added the deep dish pizza in 1975. so that would make sense, because I don’t remember pizza there. in 75-76 I went back to public school in Bethesda so I wouldn’t have eaten there. 70-75 I went to the ballet school on Wisconsin Ave.

Just returned from your area. I will remember your suggestion for my next trip...Easter? 4th of July?

It was in the ‘70s that I must have been there; in fact, I think it was called Armand’s Chicago Pizzeria - unless I’m recalling something completely different. It seems to me it was near the Mazza Gallerie (?)

Had to map that lol (I left MD in 1976 so much has changed). That is Friendship Heights and too high up. This was walking distance from Washington Ballet at Porter st and Wisconsin. and I’m pretty sure the walk was left out of the building so that would be towards the Cathedral. If I recall correctly it was on the corner. It’s possible he moved. Most of the buildings I see on google street view were not there then. They did change the name to Chicago pizzeria after he added pizza.

I’m pretty sure it’s the same place. I remember they had one of those plastic tent things, for ‘outdoor’ seating, at the time. It was cold, but the pizza was great ;-)
