That’s what I said. There is a treaty but it is outdated and takes the easy path of no barrier and setbacks from the riverbanks rather that studying what sort of porous barrier might not impede the flow of water in the river.

The alternative is a wall of lead, so Mexico may be open to changing the treaty.

Maybe Congress can create a Wall Bond that we can purchase. Tens of millions of Americans would buy them in a heartbeat, and the President could tweet out the daily total sold, just to demoralize the left.

Really excellent idea. This is like a war bond. This is war, after all.

Easy. Electrify the rails which serve to power the machine gun trolleys. Ain’t nobody gonna touch them rails!

They don’t need to touch them. Dump a bucket of cement or liquid rubber or resin on the rail and it will be out of commission, electrified or not. The machine gun mount would need to be very heavy, powerfully driven, and have a scraper front end to not be stopped by such impediments.

Thanks. The idea hit me while reading the thread. The comparison to war bonds seemed natural to me.

I agree that its an idea that most Americans would support. Any congressman who gets the ball rolling on this will be an instant hero.

Politically, it will be very hard for any Mexican politician to agree to anything that helps the wall being built. If we want to move quickly (2017/2018), I think it will have to be without Mexican cooperation. If we just went ahead and built in the water, American leftist groups would get restraining orders even quicker than Mexico could protest.

The Rio Grande Valley is so much harder than flat Arizona Desert, just due to terrain, and then you have the water use and much more extensive private property issues that you also mentioned.

The cities are where migrants and drug mules can disappear quickly when they cross the border - only minutes to respond. Out in rural areas, response times can be hours to intercept. Maybe they can build big walls quickly in the urban areas, and take a big chunk out of illegal crossings, while beefing up interdiction with more Border Patrol in rural areas.
