People Are Boycotting Starbucks After CEO Announces Plan To Hire Thousands Of Refugees

Some Starbucks customers are threatening to boycott the coffee giant after its CEO took a stand against President Donald Trump's executive order barring immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the US.

On Sunday, Starbucks announced it planned to hire 10,000 refugees worldwide in the next five years.

"We are living in an unprecedented time, one in which we are witness to the conscience of our country, and the promise of the American Dream, being called into question," CEO Howard Schultz wrote in a letter to Starbucks employees about the plan.

While many customers were immediately supportive of Starbucks' actions on social media, others threatened to boycott after the letter's release.

"Upon hearing about your decision to hire 10000 refugees instead of Americans I will no longer spend any money at Starbucks," one such Facebook user wrote on Starbucks' page.

Starbucks will never let your daughters rape stand in the way of their Virtue Signaling.

I guess no one has ever noticed that the Starbucks Trademark contains the Islamic STAR and CRESCENT.

That, and a picture of a woman (as a mermaid), with her legs spread wide apart.

“But they are in their Seattle bubble at Soho.”

Actually, it’s Sodo but what’s a letter among friends?

Doh, I’ve been away for six years. I’m losing it.

BTW, the power company here in Louisville used to be a Sears store. It looks just like the old sears that Starbucks took over only like a miniature version. Three floors.

I played Studio 7 before I left Seattle, btw. That area is actually coming up in the world. It used to be pretty ratty.

You made a good move, getting out of Seattle. Except for the occasional Sounders match, I rarely set foot inside the city limits.

I’m done with them over this. Will drive elsewhere ANYWHERE or go without.

True, but they do want people to click on the article.

"...are boycotting..." carries more weight than the ho-hum "...are threatening to boycott. In other news...".

I lived there 46 years. I bicycle commuted to my various contracts downtown and in Bellevue. I loved that town but the politics and traffic got to be too much. And I knew every nook and cranny. It was time for a change.

And now I own 32 acres with two streams with annual property taxes equal to one month’s Scion payment. :)

I’ve never understood the Liberal love for their nasty coffee.

It's chic to believe "fair trade coffee", "save the rain forest", etc., and pay higher prices for so-so/inferior product for being able to "feel good" about "saving the planet" and indigenous peoples around the world.

Damn, I can’t boycott them because I don’t ever buy any of their crap anyway!

Don't go often but I will make sure I'm always armed with Dunkin Donuts coffee whenever I need one. The Starbucks near me are overrun with "students", ne'erdowells and the slightly mentally ill , anyway.

Starbucks is living proof of the first world... if you go to starbucks on a regular basis and spend $5 or $10 for a drink, claiming you care about social justice is just, well beyond stupid.

People are free to spend their money where they like, but seriously you drop more than some people around the world make in a week on a drink and then want to lecture the rest of us about how much you care?

Bugger off.

I like a cup of the Starbucks plain black coffee with no
sugar, creamer, or flavorings. We live in the boonies where
SB doesn’t venture among us Great Unwashed. I like
McDonald’s black coffee, too. I hope enough real people
will get enough of Starbucks political pontificating and
boycott them in favor of some other reasonable place.
Most days, I drink strong instant coffee at home. Nescafe
is good instant coffee. I used to brew Mr. Coffee; but it
got to be messy to fix. At 70, I’m looking for an easy way
out.

Have you considered K-Cups? Just saw an epi of ATK that tested the machines, and they choose the $200 Cuisinart as their pick, with the K-Cup brand as the next best.

Part of their consideration was the size of the reservoir. I use a Melitta v-cone Cuisinart in the AM, and an Aeropress for the last cup of the day.

I’m cheap. . and I only have one 8 oz. cup a day. I just
sip on it all day; reheat it in the microwave. - When I
first started making instant coffee; the kind I was using
was insipid as swamp water. (Some organic brand or other
& Taster’s Choice, then another brand.) Settled on NESCAFE
hearty brew. None of it is “perfect”; but it’s okay.

I can’t boycott them because I don’t like their coffee in the first place, and so I don’t buy it anyway. Besides, their prices are way overboard.

Marxists never change their modus operandi: They are totalitarians; they always seek to enforce absolute control over others.
