Out of a total of some 870 individuals who have received Nobel prizes, exactly 3 Muslims have received prizes in either physics or chemistry.
She most likely isn’t a terrorist, but at this point there really isn’t anything left for us to do. The Iranian government persists because Iranian people put up with it. They had a revolution in ‘79. They are going to have to get their act together and have another one or live with the consequenses of the Mullahs.

I have read reports that American science has been systematically dumbed-down. Why should they be any different, when you think about it.

My son is working on his Ph.D. in engineering at a large midwestern state flagship university. Approximately half the grad students in his program q43 foreign students - primarily from China and Korea in his school. We are borrowing money to train foreign engineers and scientists by virtue of the way science is funded in the US (federal funding) and by our deficit spending, though there are some private funds as well. When those students graduate, they are taking the skills they learned home. Deficit spending on foreigners makes no sense.
My God, I have a friend (well barely, at this point) who received a PhD in “American Studies.” She came out of it thinking that the American Indian wrote the Constitution.
The universities don’t have to wait. There are probably ten qualified applicants for a post-doc like that.
She’ll just have to study TB genomics in Somalia or Burma or Zimbabwe or Paraguay.
