Why Sanctuary Cities Are Safer
NPR ^ | 1-29-2016 | Gene Demby

In his continued efforts to address the number of undocumented immigrants in the country, President Trump took a harder line against cities and jurisdictions whose mayors have said they won't cooperate with his plans to enlist their police forces to help the federal government round up undocumented immigrants.

The president said that he will cut federal funding to the police budgets of so-called sanctuary cities — like New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C — which could cost them billions of dollars. (Ahilan Arulanantham, a human rights attorney, told us on the Code Switch podcast this week that some big legal fights between those cities and the White House over whether the federal government has the authority to withhold that law enforcement funding are likely.)

But if threatening to cut off federal funding won't make sanctuary cities fall in line, the president is ready to try shaming them. According to one of the executive orders he signed on immigration enforcement this week, the White House intends to publicize when sanctuary cities do not comply by "[making] public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens and any jurisdiction that ignored or otherwise failed to honor any detainers with respect to such aliens."

So they may get another left-wing judge to try to prevent Trump from cutting off funding then...if so, what happens?

1) Trump wins the public opinion battle, easily on this subject.

2) Congress, assuming they know what’s good for them (and they do), writes their next appropriation bill, which takes effect in only 2 months, to REQUIRE Trump to do the above.

WE WIN!!!

Defund this propaganda arm of the DNC.
Absolutely! The government has as much business funding a radio station as they do funding a pizza shop or a bowling alley.
Does not - the First Amendment doesn’t forbid the government from funding a pizza shop or a bowling alley . . .

I don't follow. "Doesn't forbid" doesn't translate into "should" or "must".

The left certainly loves criminals and disdains innocent victims. That never changes. Of course, protecting convicted criminals from deportation is the safe tactic in the minds of rational people...LOL.

Trump would not cut “a” budget, much less the police budget. I hope Trump defunds NPR.

NPR/PBS constantly begs for funding during their programs on top of what they receive from the government (us). I’m a huge fan of educational documentaries which used to be standard fare on the History Chanel, Discovery and National Geographic. Most of that programming has been supplanted with trash and suppositions while PBS still shows them - so long as the programs don’t disagree with global warming and that crap. By the names of the primary contributors at the end of the shows we know these are billionaire families pushing an agenda. If they REALLY care they’ll keep it going. If not there is the wonderful backlog on YouTube.

Wish that NPR could get defunded completely. Talk about outright lies. What is sad is I know people who believe this crap 150%.

No, he could just order the channel to be filled in, just like it was originally.

That river never used to connect to the great lakes!
