PBS/NPR In Panic: Trump Administration To Defund/Privatize
Gateway Pundit ^ | January 24,2017 | Lucian Wintrich

Currently, a half-billion dollars in taxpayer money is given to National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) each year. Trump plans to do away with that. The Hill has reported:

“The Trump Administration needs to reform and cut spending dramatically, and targeting waste like the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities would be a good first step in showing that the Trump Administration is serious about radically reforming the federal budget,” said Brian Darling, a former aide to Paul and a former staffer at the Heritage Foundation.

The Regan Administration attempted something similar in the 1980s, but was ultimately convinced against it. One of the cases made was that the government owes the American people access to news/information. Back then, there was no internet, only a few dozen televisions/news radio stations. They saw it as an actual public service (perhaps, rightly so). Today, however, broadcast television and FM radio is in a major decline with fewer and fewer viewers every year. After all, who feels like waiting for the 6 o’clock news when you can just hop on the internet and get real-time news and current events?

On the Bernie Sanders campaign trail, he loved claiming that Norway was better than America. Well, Norway is planning to eliminate FM radio altogether. FM radio and satellite television are dying media forms that have been kept alive and propped up by government spending and the bureaucracy, so isn’t it good that we’re pulling federal funding? If are profitable and do in fact have a strong audience, they wouldn’t need to be subsidized with taxpayer money. Well, Hollywood doesn’t think so:

I don’t want to see NPR and “Public TV” “privitized”.

As their owners, we should merely close the doors, fire the staff and sell the assets, not together just in its various parts.

I am sure the LameStreamMedia will hire the poor dears at NPR and “Public” TV.

I would consider the de-funding of NPR and PBS to be a major victory.

If they are so wonderful, as liberals have told me, then their listeners and viewers will break the sound barrier whipping our their checkbooks to send them some cash.

Right?

Then he should say that the NPR / NEA money will be used instead as the first money for building The Wall.

"Currently, a half-billion dollars in taxpayer money is given to National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) each year."

While I have enjoyed material put out by PBS and NPR over the years, it remains that the states have never expressly constitutionally delegaetd to the feds the specific power to tax and spend for such things.

if citizens want such broadcasting then the Constitution must be appropriately amended.

Let them have bake sales and beg-a-thons if they want to stay on the air. That pays part of their bills today, just get the liberal Democrats who listen to NPR to dig a little deeper, add another zero on that check. After all it is “for our democracy” isn’t it?

I don't know about any other than PBS...I watch that station sometimes and know that they do their OWN fundraising, so why do the American People HAVE to pay for it???

If you decide to watch it, fine, then donate if you wish, but if you don't want to, fine also, but don't be using my tax dollars to fund a station that is mostly LIBERAL with LIBERAL ideas!!!
