Donald Trump Will Not Release Tax Returns, White House Adviser Says
NBC News ^ | 2017-01-22 | Alexandra Jaffe

Posted on 01/22/2017 1:20:28 PM PST by E. Pluribus Unum

Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Donald Trump, said Sunday that the president would not be releasing his tax returns, reversing months of repeated campaign-trail promises to do so after an audit is completed.

Conway's comments came in response to a Whitehouse.gov petition with more than 200,000 signatures calling on Trump to release his tax returns. Any petition on the site that receives 100,000 signatures in 30 days receives a response from the White House; this petition reached twice that in two days.

"The White House response is that he's not going to release his tax returns," Conway said in an interview on ABC's "This Week."

Trump broke with decades of precedent during the campaign by becoming the first major party nominee since the 1970s to refuse to release his tax returns. He repeatedly cited an ongoing IRS audit in refusing to do so but said he would eventually release them when the audit was completed.

But Trump and his allies have argued that his tax returns are irrelevant, a statement Conway made again on Sunday.

"We litigated this all through the election. People didn't care," she said.

"They voted for him, and let me make this very clear: Most Americans are very focused on what their tax returns will look like while President Trump is in office, not what his look like. And you know full well that President Trump and his family are complying with all the ethical rules, everything they need to do to step away from his businesses and be a full-time president."

Tax return disclosure requests are a communist device to get people arguing over who should be paying taxes rather than the size of government, or how to increase tax revenues by private sector growth. Frightened Republicans usually cave in to such nonsense.

The corrupt IRS would have gone after Trump like Bill Clinton on bimbos had there been any chance of finding something illegal.

So, to the liberals, none of your effin business. Get back to what you do best: lie, cheat, and get do nothing jobs worthy of your box top college studies.

Can someone explain to me what the great need for tax returns are? I would imagine few people except big time tax lawyers would have any chance of even a small understanding of Trumps tax returns. So 99 percent of most people would be clueless. Basically what would happen would be competing talking heads some pro Trump some anti- Trump would be on TV spinning the returns in their particular direction and in the end NOTHING changes!

The press plans to scrutinize PRESIDENT TRUMP’S taxes to see if he is ‘benefiting’ financially while serving as President - an impeachable offense. He should NEVER produce his tax records.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they were “accidentally” leaked to the press by a disgruntled (and well paid) IRS employee.

I don’t think anybody has the right to another person’s tax return. People need to mind their own business. Didn’t Obama’s IRS teach other how abusive this practice is.

Original birth certificates and college records, and social Security card proof are actually more important and reasonable.

I guess he changed his mind. Kind of like the media, for about 12 hours in the wake of the election, decided they screwed up covering Trump.

Now, they’re back to defamation and lying again.

Anybody is entitled to change their mind. He was sincere when he said he would release them. Just changed his mind so there is no dishonesty.

“The only reason the presstitutes want them is so they can attack Trump’s customers and vendors.”

FReeper Doughty One postulated the brilliant reason why Trump should not release his taxes......b/c all of Trump's business contacts would have their privacy invaded.

Trump has chosen to relase his tax returns to the IRS instead of CNN.

Don't be surprised if a "lone" IRS agent decides to leak them anyway. Would not surprise me.

Since when are customers and vendors names detailed on a tax return? Have you ever filed?

Not really. President Trump didn't give them anything to chew on. He left them to snarl, grumble, and snap at everything that moves.

They're still hungry -- ha ha!

( Off Topic --- I am so happy to once again be able to put the prefix, 'President', before the name of the current White House occupant's name! )

What a STUPID question!

Yes, vendors are contained within corporate tax returns. I guess you’ve never filed a corporate return.

Don’t be an ass.

I was hoping for this. Tax returns are private, there are plenty of public financial disclosures required of candidates and public officials.
