Good grief. You would have hated my Catholic School. No Inaugural Speech from Carter, Reagan, Bush Senior. Yikes. I don’t know why schools need to interrupt their day for that. Can’t kids watch it later at home. Do companies allow for workers to watch? I doubt it big time. I know they didn’t allow it for Obama and sure as heck won’t allow it for Trump.

It's quite simple, naps. The purpose of our schools is supposed to be education. Presidential inaugurations are live history in the making - that is a very good reason for students to watch it. Furthermore, watching it together where they can supposedly discuss it afterwards among themselves, or even with their teachers, if any who could handle a reasonably fair dialogue could be found, would be a good thing.

In a real educational system it would provide an excellent opportunity for the teachers to explain once again how our Constitutional system of government works, and how it provides (supposedly) for a peaceful transfer of power.

That's how it should work, although I know with the current school systems they'll fight it tooth and nail. Just letting the kids watch the inauguration together would be a good first step, though.

You would have enjoyed my school in 1961 where most teachers and students were Catholic and the inauguration was a solemnity.

I also went to Catholic schools....never missed an election celebration that I can remember. (started with Truman). This is history in the making and to participate is to be a lifelong memory. I was into this at a VERY early age and I loved politics a lot. I now have a grandson, in college, who is also a follower. He has interned for our state rep. and was pictured at one time, immediately behind governor Pence....pretty impressive!!!!!
