Melania Trump will get from the White House to Trump Tower faster than your average big city commuter takes to get home -- and she's doing it by plane, chopper and automobile. TMZ broke the story ... Melania will stay at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave Friday and Saturday night and then return to Trump Tower Sunday with Barron so he can continue his school year in NYC. It's going to be quite the whirlwind trip home. Our sources tell us Melania will drive in a motorcade from the White House to Andrews AFB in Maryland: 20 mins. Then she'll hop on a 737 or a 757 (similar to Trump's jumbo jet) to NYC's LaGuardia Airport: 45 mins. From there, they'll dodge bridge and tunnel traffic by taking a helicopter to Manhattan's Chelsea district: 15 mins. Their journey ends with another motorcade for the 2.5 mile ride to Trump Tower: 10 mins. All told, Melania's looking at a 90 minute ride. No carpool necessary. It's good to be the First Lady.
Likely the Sikorsky SH-3A* designated Marine One when POTUS is on board. Not built for speed, but rather ASW and payload, it’ll cruise about 125 KIAS.
A Blackhawk (much smaller) can cruise about 165 - 175 KIAS.
Not gonna be cheap to go back and forth for the weekend.

LaGuardia to NYC traffic is always tied up, trust me, so taking a helo into NYC is a good idea. Her passing in a motorcade on Manhattan would really only screw up a few miles.
White House to Andrews AFB is barely 15 miles by CAR.
FIRST job is SECURE transport. SECOND job is SAFETY. THIRD job is comfort.

True fact: The WH lawn keeper has tremendous say on what kind of helicopter can land on the south lawn.

2. Barron is old enough that he could make that rip by himself if necessary. Especially with a Marine or 2 to accompany him. It might be the highlight of his week to show up at school with a Marine escort...
I don’t know much about helicopters...can they travel 250 miles?
I would imagine that if she flew the entire way, it would require the FAA to crate a "no fly zone" throughout the route - thus inconveniencing a larger corridor of people.
The Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King, which is just one of four different types of helicopters used to transport the President, has a range of over 600 miles.

Traffic from DC to Andrews is often bad, especially on Friday afternoons! Fifteen miles coming out of DC is a long way. I do think this will mess up traffic there.
Has she looked into Teeterboro?
I don’t think so. Large airplanes would already be flying at a different altitude, and there aren’t all that many smaller planes flying all at one time.
The traffic around DC is really terrible.
