Democratic U.S. Rep. John Lewis, a civil rights leader who says he doesn't see Donald Trump as a "legitimate president," should be grateful for all that Republican presidents have done for black people, GOP Gov. Paul LePage said Tuesday. LePage, who's white, said on WVOM-FM that the black Democratic Georgia congressman needs a history lesson. "We're sick of the silver-tongued people. How about John Lewis last week? Criticizing the president?" LePage said. "You know, I will just say this: John Lewis ought to look at history. It was Abraham Lincoln that freed the slaves. It was Rutherford B. Hayes and Ulysses S. Grant that fought against Jim Crow laws. A simple thank you would suffice."

One side benefit from Trumps election may just be the demise of ‘political correct’ badgering as it is no longer seen as relevant or effective. IOW once again we can call a spade a spade.
Georgia has had only FOUR republican governors! Only 2 since the voting rights act was passed.
Hayes ran against them, but caved in to win the presidency in that close 1876 election.
“... WITH EVERY TWEET ...”
This is just a very, very important point.
The more PE Trump calls out the liars, the more people who have heretofore remained silent, have finally begun to speak the truth to people who seem to have a BAD motive for their comments.
I doubt he goes anywhere without his armed posse.
Yes, and Bullock and Conley were both little more than carpetbaggers...
Go LePAGE!!! He;s the ONLY Republican that has had the BALLS to say anything against St. John Lewis, the MORON!!!
Hayes faced a catch-22. Either he agreed to end it in order for the Democrats to go along with awarding him a contested Electoral College victory, or he refused and it would be awarded to NY Dem Gov. Tilden, who would end Reconstruction himself.
Interesting discussion on Tucker Carlson with a former Black Panther Party member who echoed similar sentiments:
Description:
‘John Lewis wants to oppress black America’. In this explosive interview on ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’. Former Black Panther party member Mason Weaver does not mince his words by saying that John Lewis is an illegitimate Congressman who keeps getting richer while black people in his district and in the US get poorer. Mr Weaver describes Congressman John Lewis as a democratic puppet working for democratic interests to destruct the black community. - Tucker Carlson Tonight - Fox News.

Potentially our future governor is right on today PING :)
I notice there's a revisionist theory that there was no deal, but Democrats controlled the House and wouldn't fund the army if Reconstruction continued. I don't know if that's right.
However it happened, Hayes doesn't seem to have been that motivated to prevent racial abuses, so far as I know.
THANK YOU for sharing the Booker T Washington quote. Truly a great GREAT AMERICAN.
I have spent the past few 4th of July holidays trekking to the Booker T Washington National Monument in Virginia. I plan to do it again this year. It is a very peaceful, hallowed piece of ground, so important to our American history. I wish I knew how to post a picture, I would include one here of the site.
I live in Maine and heard most of that radio interview with Governor LePage.
When the governor said “We’re sick of the silver-tongued people,” I thought he mentioned by name Maine U.S. Senator Angus King (LePage will be challenging him in 2018 for his Senate seat) and First District of Maine moonbat congress-critter Chellie Pingree, who is boycotting the inauguration.
Regarding history, I have relatives (great-great-great uncles, approximately) who emigrated from Norway to Wisconsin in the early 1800’s and who died serving in the Union Army. In other words, my distant uncles, both white, died in the fight to free the slaves. My great-great-grandfather also served in the Union forces and, fortunately, lived to return home.
If they were all somehow still living, and had voted for Trump, Lewis would no doubt consider them all racists. Screw him, not for being black, but for being un-American. Illegitimate, my butt.
The history of the parties should be constantly thrown in the libs faces when they start the “racist” crap.
Their only response when asked WHO is a racist is “yeah but what about David Duke” someone who was NEVER supported by the party and was 35 yrs ago.
AHC has a great six part series on the Civil War. John Johnson of the second Wisconsin won the MOH at the battle of Antietam was a recent immigrant from Norway.
Thanks for the quote.
Now, off to the library.
You are SO right! I attended a MLK event yesterday which was sponsored by the community college where I have worked for the past 34 years. It was very good, but the whole time I was sitting there I was thinking how disappointed MLK would be if he knew how his legacy has been perverted by groups like BLM and other anti-white hate groups. We should all judge others by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.
Article says: "Maine governor offers John Lewis an erroneous history lesson"
