Israel (and the USA) are both unusual phenomena on the globe.
Theology, rather than continued mortal rule, has been the basis of the ownership assertions associated with both of them. The “manifest destiny” of the USA was — let’s face it — a gospel supremacy claim.
Attempts for one of these parties to deny the other (and we’ve seen it happen in minority movements) are asking for beatdowns from heaven.
Happily, after 8 years of waffling under Barack Obama, the question of the official view of Israel from the USA is going to be very, very clear. This can’t even be attributed to Donald Trump’s churching. That’s Presbyterian with their “replacement theology” which is some theological legerdemain that would elbow the Jewish story right out of history’s picture. Just one of a number of reasons why Trump didn’t even vet his vision with his church. It was way too large for it.
Just remember, the French have millions of firearms in a big warehouse; that have only been dropped once.
