Obama and His Movement Prepare to Challenge President Trump
NBC News ^ | JAN 14 2017 | PERRY BACON JR.

CHICAGO — He may be leaving the White House but he isn't totally going away.

As President Obama gave his farewell address to the nation on Tuesday night, he also began the shift to a third stage of his political career. The once young, idealistic senator-turned-two-term-president will soon become an influential strategist and ally to those worried about the future with Donald Trump at the helm of the most powerful nation on the planet.

Obama nodded to this new role in his speech Tuesday. He did not directly criticize his successor, but used lines like "I reject discrimination against Muslim-Americans" that were clearly aimed at Trump and delighted the audience of more than 20,000 Democrats who crowded into McCormick Place to hear his final address as president.

His path forward is still evolving. Prior to November's election, Obama and his aides had hinted that the outgoing president would limit his future involvement in politics and instead focus on writing a book chronicling his eight years in office, use his foundation to expand his "My Brother's Keeper" program and give speeches and join boards, as other ex-presidents have done.

But now, Obama's chief achievements, such as his climate change policies and the Affordable Care Act, are in danger of being gutted by the Republican Congress, the Democratic Party is in disarray and much of the country — and the world — is uncertain what a Trump presidency will bring.

Oh, please..................

Where’s a REAL, ACTUAL ‘birth certificate’?
Not some layered forgery, certified by the (conveniently) dead?
How’s a Kenyan daddy make O a ‘natural-born’ citizen EVER?
How does an adoption at eight years’ by an Indonesian step-daddy morph into an American citizenship AT ALL?
Now dig up ANY of the volumes of material CV stuff that is somehow ‘sealed’.
How’s that stuff SEALED anyway? What’s with that??

It would b SO EASY to get back at him..............

But as he sucks the oxygen out of the air for the Democrat party and its future candidate, I can easily see this backfiring on the Dems.

That's what I was going to say, right down to the "suck the oxygen" phrase. I hope Obama and Hillary stay front and center as the democrat leadership.

In 5 more days, all he’ll be able to do is bore people to death.

The only he isn’t a failure at is putting people to sleep.

Didn’t obama say in his speech that he and his family were glad to be getting out from under the microscope? ye he is planning to be involved in ways that will keep him under the microscope, in news and public eye?

I’m still holding a bit of hope things of his origins come to light quickly and damage his appeal and his credibility even the more.

Why would they listen to him, after he’s decimated the party ? Are all of the ambitious dems willing to sit back and let Obie grab the spotlight at the expense of their political careers ? Not a chance.

Obama is sucking the oxygen out of the Democrat Party for the next 20 years by not going away.

That is horrible. (snicker snicker)

Please give Obama a tent on the White House lawn!

Optimally, we would see black Dems fighting feminist Dems, white socialists, Hispanics, and Muslims for dominance of the Dem party.

Can I ask you what the point of [Fightin Whitey's] photoshopped image is?

To instigate a deletion from a moderator, apparently.

Such racially antagonistic garbage is not needed here...

Considering the fact that this man has been sitting on his ample butt for 50 years, living off of his reputation, all this time doing squat for the people in his district, I'd say it's fairly representative of the amount of true brainpower he's expended over the years. He's just another faux "icon" the DemocRATs throw up as some unassailable cheap shot to their enemies. A black Cindy Sheehan. Bravo to Trump for throwing this lazy bum's asinine comments back in his face, and challenging him to actually DO his job and help the people who elected him.

However, I doubt he's capable of actually DOING anything other than what Pelosi tells him to do.

“It’s funny, liberals like to say that we are better off now than we were 8 years ago. But when I say Democrats need to get behind Trump now and be cooperative, they immediately reply that the Republican Congress wasn’t cooperative, and in fact stopped Obama from doing practically anything. When I say, “So I guess we are better off today because the GOP didn’t let him do anything?” They get really mad.”

That is so worth repeating!

We’re better off, and the Republicans stopped Obama, so I guess WE ARE better off because of the Republicans and not Obama.

Keep thinking: Liberals hate that!

I hope he continues to do for the democrat party what he has done for them the last 8 years. By the end of Trump’s 2nd term the democrat party should be extinct.
