Santa Rosa school board votes to protect undocumented students
Press Democrat ^ | 14 Jan 2017

Posted on 01/14/2017 7:02:46 PM PST by rey

The trustees overseeing Santa Rosa City Schools voted unanimously this week to declare the district a “safe haven” for immigrant families, meaning no federal immigration officers will be allowed on campus without the written approval of district Superintendent Diann Kitamura.

The move on Wednesday has been in the works since the day after the November election, said Jenni Klose, the board president, who said it was prompted by fears and anxiety generated by President-Elect Donald Trump’s campaign trail promises to build a wall between the United States and Mexico and vow to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.

“There were first-graders telling their teacher that they were afraid that if Trump were elected, they would be, or their parents would be, taken away,” Klose said. “They wondered why someone running for president hated Mexicans like them, and that anxiety has been pretty widespread.”

The Santa Rosa City Schools district, the largest in Sonoma County, is the first to vote on such a resolution, according to county Office of Education, which is considering something similar for its special and alternative education programs.

“Children need to feel safe,” said Kitamura. “We want to reassure our students and their families that they have the legal right to be in our public schools, whatever their immigration status.”

What authority does a public school have to block a federal officer? I doubt this has ever been a problem in the past. How could they possibly verify a students immigration status. I like the photo of grade schoolers to induce greater sympathy, as though the feds were rounding up little kids and shipping them off. I would think a private school would have more authority to restrict feds. Can we restrict the ATF and other agencies as well?

It is interesting that the comment feature is disabled for the article. I gather we are not allowed to comment on propaganda.

Here's another school district pushing the same propaganda.

Hasn’t California seceded yet? Let’s give them all the help they need. Don’t go away mad, California; just go away.

Bet they’d have to close their schools & layoff at least half their staff at their schools if the illegals were sent packing - that’s why they’re attempting this illegal crap!

Nothing like a little indoctrination. I had the opposite, my father was a Bircher and would tell us all the time about the pending economic collapse and Communist take over. Stocked up on food and everything. Almost disappointing it hasn’t happened yet. Certainly economic disparity is possible. I have doubts on the Soviet thing, as they are no more. Some folks worry about China, but if all their military has is made in China, they haven’t a chance.

I suspect that like here in NJ, many of those schools would be closed without those “undocumented students”. Nothing wrong with that, but entrenched teachers’ unions (the de facto owners of the Democratic Party) would never allow that to happen. It would greatly reduce their ability to transfer taxpayer funds directly into Democrat coffers; on top of that, legitimate taxpayers are already forced to foot the bill for these “students” by the very fact that their parents are legally prevented from working as taxpayers.

They really are going to miss those federal dollars.
Once the local taxpaying citizens find out how expensive those illegal aliens really are, they may change their minds.

Certainly many school in Sonoma County would suffer if immigration were enforced.

All over NJ we’d have the same problem - and that dynamic is chasing Americans out of the state. American taxpayers are tired of paying massive amounts of money to provide schooling for foreigners’ kids.

Schools have another source of revenue, send Mexico a bill to pay for the education of tall the undocumented students. <sarcasm

If they are capable of such nuanced analysis, did they also wonder why they are Mexican nationals attending school in a foreign country?

"...no federal immigration officers will be allowed on campus without the written approval of district Superintendent Diann Kitamura."

No problem. Mamasita and Papa will be taking little Jose out of school and heading south, when they can't get jobs, and their welfare benefits are cancelled.

So children need to feel safe, eh?

Ok, what politicians do you vote for who are anti drug, anti crime, anti homosexuality, anti pornography ?

I mean, if you REALLY want to protect kids, you sure as hell would vote for a liberal

BTW from what I’ve heard from child protective services investigators, the amount of child abuse is disproportionately bad in the strongest of the Demonratic households.........

That part could be worked around if need be.

The part that can’t be worked around is the fact that giving up CA would be the pulling of a thread that would unravel the entire nation in decades, or maybe even in just years.

There seem to be a lot of Freepers sorely lacking even a modicum of wisdom.

Correct. It’s always “let CA go” etc blah. They still seem to forget how many Americans spilled their blood so this state will be part of the union. I’ve probably seen the same old stupid remark 10 times a day..

Santa Rosa school board votes to have to become a criminal conspiracy.

Fixed it.
