The Environmental Protection Agency announced Friday it will not repay claims totaling more than $1.2 billion for economic damages from a mine waste spill the agency accidentally triggered in Colorado, saying the law prohibits it.
The EPA said the claims could be refiled in federal court, or Congress could authorize payments.
But attorneys for the EPA and the Justice Department concluded the EPA is barred from paying the claims because of sovereign immunity, which prohibits most lawsuits against the government.

The Libs here in Durango are all bent out of shape over this. They don’t want to criticize the EPA but don’t like the EPA not paying. Lol.
The peasants are revolting.
Good to see the lefties freaking out.
Good to see the lefties freaking out.
It’s always enjoyable Lol.
They come up with every excuse imaginable to defend their agenda and those who veer away when there is a conflict of interest among themselves. They really are a sick bunch.

The reason tax payers will pay is if the commission finds the government liable for the damages. The government is in my view certainly responsible for the actions of it’s agent.
The second issue involves bonuses and is a legal issue. I would think the new president can determine the bonuses were for reasons provided, unjustified and rule the bonuses must be refunded. After that actually getting the money back is unlikely
Beyond voting, tax payers have no say in the matter. Say is the responsibility of elected representatives
This is another of the Obama non-scandals. Don’t get me wrong - I’m not saying this is his personal fault, but that if it happened during a Republican administration, it WOULD be blamed directly on the president. The president would not be allowed to say, “I first heard about it in the newspaper.”
The decisions made by the greentard bureaucrats amount to misprision in office. They should be held personally liable.
Everyone involved with that case should be held liable for the entire amount.
Leave them standing in the street in their underwear, with no other assets.
” EPA is barred from paying the claims because of sovereign immunity, which prohibits most lawsuits against the government. ”
What a complete fuc$ing joke our laws and government have become.
