Al Arabiya ^ | Friday, 13 January 2017

US president-elect Donald Trump named Dina Habib to serve as assistant to the president and senior counselor for economic initiatives.

Habib, who was born in 1973 in Cairo, Egypt, before her parents emigrated to the States, worked with the administration of the former president, George Bush, overseeing charities initiatives, prior joining Goldman Sachs as a managing director.

She Joined the State Department as an assistant for Cultural and Educational Affairs to the then Secretary of Department, Condoleeza Rice.

Habib as a president of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, has overseen one of the bank largest initiatives including the “10,000 Women” program, which helps female entrepreneurs around the world.

One of the success stories of the initiative is the case of Eudiji Mijboub, a Nigerian woman who was helped to launch her catering business with just $8 in seed capital in 2007, to become now one of the best restaurants in Lagos.

Later, Habib partnered with the World Bank to give 100,000 female-owned small and medium-sized business around the world access to some $600 million in capital

“Habib as a president of the Goldman Sachs Foundation”

This doesn’t bother me and I was never swayed by all the anti-Goldman-Sachs hysteria of the election, but I’m not sure how some people reconcile it.

I agree. GS is a giant organization with 35k+ employees. Like any assemblage of that size, there are some excellent people working there (and some not so good). I trust Trump's judgment to get the good ones.

They pretend it doesn't exist.

Purely an affirmative action hire. It’s inevitable there will be some in the Trump Administration.

Purely an affirmative action hire.

Wrong. Donald Trump doesn't do "affirmative action" hires. Donald Trump hires people who he believes are eminently qualified to do the job in question. Period.

If such a person is a woman or a minority, that's merely a coincidence.

Donald Trump is literally the last person who would do any hiring based on PC affirmative action principles...

Okay, call it diversity then. I don’t have a problem with that. He could use more support from women.

I concur. I would also add that the “inevitability” of it is absolutely improbable.

They need an Egyptian employee who can help them identify and remove all of the Muslim Brotherhood operatives Obama is leaving behind.

I think you are wrong. Trump said Antonin Scalia was racist for being against Affirmative Action, so Trump is very ,much in favor of Affirmative Action.

The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria belongs to the Oriental Orthodox family of Churches, which has been a distinct Christian body since the schism following the Council of Chalcedon in AD 451, when it took a different position over Christology from that of the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church.

Yes.

http://www.arabamerica.com/egyptian-american-goldman-sachs-executive-dina-habib-powell-join-trump-administration/

Dina Habib Powell, president of the Goldman Sachs foundation, has accepted a senior role focused on entrepreneurship, economic growth, and women’s empowerment in the Trump administration. Two sources close to Powell told Politico that Powell is expected to work closely with President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, to help the administration form ties with women and corporate America.

Powell, 43, emigrated to Dallas, Texas with her parents from Cairo, Egypt when she was only four years old. Her career in politics started as a student at the University of Texas, where she interned at the office of then-Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, a Republican.

At 29, Powell became the youngest-ever assistant to the president for presidential personnel in Bush’s White House. She was instrumental in helping the administration make decisions on appointments.

The Egyptian American business executive offers hope for inclusion of minority voices in the Trump administration. Condoleezza Rice praised Powell as a cultural ambassador, and Arianna Huffington, founder of the left-leaning news website Huffington Post, said the administration would be lucky to have Powell on their team.
