The head of the D.C. National Guard, Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, said Friday that he has been ordered removed from his command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.
Schwartz’s forced departure will come in the midst of the presidential inauguration that he has spent months helping plan alongside D.C. police, the U.S. Secret Service and other top District officials. He will turn over command to an interim as power transfers from one president to the next, and just before the inaugural parade marches down Pennsylvania Avenue.
“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post. During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. guard but also an additional 5,000 troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting the nation’s capital during the inauguration.
“My troops will be on the street,” Schwartz, 65, said. “I’ll see them off but I won’t be able to welcome them back to the armory.” He said that he would “never plan to leave a mission in the middle of a battle.”
Schwartz said he would oversee duties in a command center and then depart at 12:01 p.m., retiring from the Army.

I’m super duper troubled by this, the levity in the thread above scares me. Obama ordered this - no one else, no else has the power to do it. Trump didn’t do it, Mattis didn’t do it, it has nothing to do with the Ambassadors, the Government doesn’t close every inauguration day, all the political appointees don’t automatically go back in the genie bottle.
DC hasn’t been an important command post since 1865 - and they’re expecting hellfire this January 20th. This stinks out loud. OUT LOUD.
I read every other story on this Business Insider etc., it’s still scary. Someone will try to kill him with no command.

Completely strange, especially since this guy is not an Obama loyalist. He was appointed by Bush because he is loyal to the United States, not to Zero.
Changing command during the middle of an important deployment is a strange thing to do — why not replace him effective the next day?
Maybe he did something to p*ss Trump off while “negotiating with the inauguration committee” on a “number of issues?”
His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the District of Columbia, a Master of Arts degree in Business Management from Central Michigan University and a Master of Science Degree in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University. In addition, General Schwartz has completed the Department of Defense Senior Executive Leadership Course, the National War College, the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and the CAPSTONE course for Flag and General Officers.
This certainly sound more real world oriented as opposed to Liberal credentials.
The Kennedy school of government ain't a plus, but there is no alternative. Overall he looks good.
That was my take. It's seems quite abrupt and sudden.
Thats my point - you don’t change commanders at the height of battle unless they get shot, and that person already knows the plan, everyone else already knows who number two is. And the people above aren’t fully appreciating what’s likely to happen next Friday. It will be the worst day of venom the lefties have ever summoned. THE WORST. Forget Seattle. Forget Occupy. Forget Baltimore.
