Actually, this is good political news for the Republican Party, but it will be quickly reversed.

The “First Wave” of Cubans who came in 1960 had mostly European ancestry. They were Cuba's professional class and business owners. They voted heavily for the GOP.

The “Second Wave” of Cubans that started coming in 1979 had mostly African, Caribbean, and Hispanic ancestry. They were mostly poor, and they vote heavily for the Democratic Party.

Most people do not understand that distinction.

The new policy will be reversed by Republicans, but it will only help the Democrats gain more future Socialist voters.

I don’t. Not because I agree with Obama much. The truth is we don’t need new Cubans. While I admire and welcome the old-guard Cubans who fled Castro and know what communism was all about, there is no guarantee that new generations of Cubans share that same opinion. We should not expect anyone from a socialist state to completely abandon the ideology any more than we can expect anyone to abandon Islamism when they enter. It’s time to start severely restricting who comes here. Those who are hostile to our way of life should not be welcome.

I totally agree. A lot of FReepers still believe that all Cubans are wonderful conservatives. They are not. The polls show that almost half voted for Hillary in FL.
