A Pew Research Center survey released January 11 shows that police officers support protecting citizens’ gun rights over passing more gun control by a margin of 3 to 1.

The survey also shows that two out of three officers oppose an “assault weapons” ban.

If the poll is true, the majority of police are pro-2nd.

“The Pew survey was drawn from “the attitudes and experiences of nearly 8,000 policemen and women from departments with at least 100 officers.”

The poll is actually skewed against pro-Second Amendment officers in the sample.

They did not sample departments with less than 100 officers. Lots of those departments out there in rural america, and they tend to be very pro-Second Amendment.

I’m actually surprised about this, to be honest.

The cops know that CCW holders are not the ones causing problems.

Why wouldn’t they? They know better than anyone they can’t be everywhere at once. They would much prefer going to a crime scene where they perp is laying in a pool of blood than an innocent citizen. Far less paperwork.

The majority of rank and file police officers have always been pro firearm ownership.

It is just that the old liberal media as always put out the anti’s out front to try and convince every body that cops are anti gun.

I checked the methodology and did a little looking at the Bureau of Justice statistics for police departments.

The sample is deliberately skewed (partly because it makes data collection easier) toward large, urban police and sheriff’s departments.

Just as a start, it eliminates departments with less than 100 sworn officers, which is about 37% of all officers in the U.S.!

When two thugs attempted to break into my motel room 13 months ago, the first thing I did was grab my Glock 23. Once they saw that barrel pointed at them, they fled. The second thing I did was wake up my wife, who called the police. The officer that took our report stated that he liked seeing citizens arm themselves and take responsibility for their own safety. Because when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. Five minutes in our case. And the cop on the street knows this. They simply can’t be everywhere all the time.

It is the police higher-ups, who are politically appointed, that seem to be against the 2nd. The troops are overwhelmingly pro 2nd amendment.

Nothing new. We’ve known for the last fifty five years that the local cops and sheriffs support the ownership of firearms. It is the politically appointed “Chiefs” of police that want “gun control”.

Have had a sheriff and local police officer tell me that they would not enforce any gun control take away program. Would support the armed citizen.

I'm not, I was a fed LEO for 25 years and just about every agent I know owns an assault rifle. They are citizens and subject to the same laws as everyone else and they know it.

“assault rifle?”

Okay, a semi automatic sporting rifle which complies will all state, local and federal regulations.

I had an FN/FAL which was lost in a tragic boating accident.

A thief came into a local business, stole the Salvation Army donations and when someone dialed 911... please hold. True story.

As Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) said: “There are three things cops never do. They don’t vote Democrat, they don’t drive Cadillacs, and they never use personal vehicles.”

You could add something about guns to that too!

I am curious where leadership stands. I know in Canada, the higher ranks of the RCMP are madly anti-gun. They even decided on their own, without Parliament, to ban guns that were previously legal.

I’m not surprised, they know better than most that armed citizens make their job easier. They know the criminals will have guns regardless of the law.
