Trump puts RFK Jr – who has railed against vaccines - in charge of commission on vaccine safety

President-elect Donald Trump has tapped a Kennedy – and a vaccine skeptic – to run a new commission on the safety of vaccines.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revealed his new role after a meeting at Trump Tower on Tuesday.

He said Trump had asked him to head a commission on 'vaccine safety and scientific integrity' and that he had agreed to do so.

Both Trump and Kennedy have have raised suspicions about vaccines despite their overwhelming support among scientists and physicians as a way to prevent the spread of deadly diseases that can infect infants and other children when the pool of protected people is diminished.

Kennedy said the purpose would be 'to make sure we have scientific integrity in the vaccine process for efficacy and safety effects.'

The vaccine skeptic is the most prominent Democrat to accept an assignment from President-elect Trump.

President-elect Trump has some doubts about the current vaccine policies and he has questions about it,' Kennedy told reporters Tuesday

'His opinion doesn't matter but the science does matter and we ought to be reading the science and we ought to be debating the science,' Kennedy added.

'And that everybody ought to be able to be assured that the vaccines that we have – he's very pro-vaccine, as am I – but they're as safe as they possibly can be.'

Kennedy last year said vaccines were causing a 'holocaust' among children – he later apologized for using the loaded term.

Kennedy's appointment marries vaccine skeptics on the left and right, notwithstanding the widespread scientific consensus on the benefit of vaccine use on a population.

Trump tweeted about vaccines in 2014: 'Healthy young child goes to doctor, gets pumped with massive shot of many vaccines, doesn't feel good and changes – AUTISM. Many such cases!' he wrote.

Following the maxim, “Never get into any kind of conveyance with a Kennedy”, I wonder what this bodes.

Sure does seem like some effort went into protecting the family reputation... despite the best efforts of this particular member of the family.

No different than having a skeptic looking at globull warming. He can't stop anything, just report and while vaccinations are generally safe, they have also caused serious problems, up to death, for some. Would be nice to be able to tell who might be more prone to such reactions and take other routes to protect them and others from them.

Big arguments about ties to autism but autism has escalated during the same time period vaccines have been widely used - who knows what good might come of having a skeptic instead of a salesman in this position.

he’s placating his enemies and giving him something completely meaningless to do.

Yep. Are the far-lefters going to complain? LOL. Love it.

I think the point is, an intellectual he is not. This guy makes Al Gore look pretty smart.

IMO, and not that I'm any smarter than anyone else here....

The risk of vaccination for diseases that are not wholly preventable - like the flu, for instance - is outweighed by the risk of contracting the disease. Unless I plan to spend the winter in complete isolation, I'll take a million-to-one shot of contracting Guillain-Barre syndrome, over a 50-50 chance of contracting the flu. I had a horrific bout with the flu awhile back; honestly wasn't sure if I would live or die. Won't risk that again.

Where I start to draw the line is at mandated shots for wholly preventable diseases. HPV comes to mind immediately.

My worst nightmare is a mandated vaccine for AIDS, or HIV. Right now, my chances for getting it are zero, and will be zero for the rest of my life. Even a one-in-a-million risk of contracting it via vaccine is still foolishly high.

The information is according to RFK Jr. Consider the source. Doubtful at best.

you have no power or authority to do anything

I want all the kennedys to be forced into seclusion, obscurity and obsolescence. I don't like President Elect Trump giving any kennedy any position that puts the kennedy name before the public.

I can see how that might be impetus for the RAT party to use RFK jr in the future. After all, even though the position itself might not mean anything, democrats are too stupid for it to make any difference.

Trump: Put up or shut up Mr. Kennedy.

He won’t be criticizing his own Commission, will he?

An insider told me that about three years ago, vaccine mfg looked at the problem and eliminated the chemical that caused the autism.

I don’t know how President-Elect Donald Trump does it, but every single day he does something to make me even happier with him!

Maybe somebody’s watched and learned the old Clinton “inoculation” routine, and are using one of their own scions to forward positions that would drive them to apoplexy otherwise. Just a thought.

“...pseudo-medical quackery...”

I have real questions about the safety of all medications, whether it’s pills over-the-counter, prescriptions, or vaccines. Anytime a one minute commercial uses 45 seconds of its time telling you about the “possible” side effects of taking the product, I don’t know.....

Just for the record, I’ll put my 2 cents in.

Talk about fake news? Vaccines are fake science. Plenty of evidence, just dig it up. Same with flu shots.

I never allowed my 24 yr. old daughter to have any vaccines - healthy as a horse.

MMR vaccines degrade the immune system - shun them!

So the conservative talking point is that the Govt should force vaccines on citizens?

It's a balancing act. You can't just have everyone who says "take your shots" and shut up on "vaccine safety" commissions.

Trump was even tossing it around in his head, too. Maybe space the shots and not all at once. I can see that myself.

While the usual canard in science is “correlation does not equal causation”, the caveat is that it usually indicates where the experimental or research efforts should go. There is little if any correlation between vaccination and autism, while there is a near perfect overlay of correlation between the “war on fats”, maternal insulin resistance/obesity, and autism...

I have never been, and never will be, a fan of the Kennedys.

That being said....there is some logic behind appointing the biggest skeptics you can find to a panel charged with ensuring product safety.

Too many of these today are dominated by industry rubber-stamp Yes Men. Particularly in the pharma field.
