Trump puts RFK Jr – who has railed against vaccines - in charge of commission on vaccine safety

President-elect Donald Trump has tapped a Kennedy – and a vaccine skeptic – to run a new commission on the safety of vaccines.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revealed his new role after a meeting at Trump Tower on Tuesday.

He said Trump had asked him to head a commission on 'vaccine safety and scientific integrity' and that he had agreed to do so.

Both Trump and Kennedy have have raised suspicions about vaccines despite their overwhelming support among scientists and physicians as a way to prevent the spread of deadly diseases that can infect infants and other children when the pool of protected people is diminished.

Kennedy said the purpose would be 'to make sure we have scientific integrity in the vaccine process for efficacy and safety effects.'

The vaccine skeptic is the most prominent Democrat to accept an assignment from President-elect Trump.

President-elect Trump has some doubts about the current vaccine policies and he has questions about it,' Kennedy told reporters Tuesday

'His opinion doesn't matter but the science does matter and we ought to be reading the science and we ought to be debating the science,' Kennedy added.

'And that everybody ought to be able to be assured that the vaccines that we have – he's very pro-vaccine, as am I – but they're as safe as they possibly can be.'

Kennedy last year said vaccines were causing a 'holocaust' among children – he later apologized for using the loaded term.

Kennedy's appointment marries vaccine skeptics on the left and right, notwithstanding the widespread scientific consensus on the benefit of vaccine use on a population.

Trump tweeted about vaccines in 2014: 'Healthy young child goes to doctor, gets pumped with massive shot of many vaccines, doesn't feel good and changes – AUTISM. Many such cases!' he wrote.

Not really. Let RFK jr put his actions where his mouth has been for several years. Let him find the truth and put up or shut up..................

He’s so smart... he’s placating his enemies and giving him something completely meaningless to do. It’s brilliant.

Yep, as JR Ewing once said “keep your friends close, and your enemies closer”.... throw the left a (spoiled) bone...

“In the article, Dr Neides said he could not prove that vaccinations caused autism

‘Does the vaccine burden - as has been debated for years - cause autism? I don’t know and will not debate that here.’”

Doesn’t sound like he linked them to me.

Even Ben Carson agreed with Trump on this at one of the debates.

A healthy skepticism of vaccines is a good thing.
We’ve spread ours very far out over the years with our children and avoided MMR.

This is not good. We don’t want someone who buys into this kind of pseudo-medical quackery in a top job.

Maybe he is thinking that putting a vaccine safety critic in charge will take some of the wind out of the sails of the anti-vaccine crowd.

Getting a prominent (D) to start questioning “scientific integrity” will have a good overflow into the much bigger globul warming scam...:^)

This is the brilliance of Trump being displayed. Trump will not allow RFK will to pass BS. The libs will be forced to rely on real science.

The article seems to say that RFK is the sole source for this story

[This is a head scratcher]

Many have concerns about vaccines. A friend of mine recently succumbed to Guillain-Barre Syndome. She had had a recent flu vaccine and had good health prior to that.

Trump is committed to the Vets, as he stated very clearly in the press conference.

If this pick doesn't work out, he will be replaced.

As for Kennedy, he seems to have the right opinion on this subject.

Letting the first Kennedy into your administration is like letting the first termite into your house.

I was head of a commission once. Trust me, you have no power or authority to do anything other than issue a report that no one will read and present recommendations that no one will listen to or implement.

John Breaux, izzat you?...................

Trump has stated and I agree, that these all in one vaccines are dangerous and quite possibly are contributing to the rise in autism. He’s not anti-vaccine, he’s anti-all at once vaccination. There is an immune response to just one vaccine. Overwhelming an immature immune system like that cannot be good, regardless. It’s done to save time and expense, not to benefit the child.

Not really - there’s a lot of funny business that goes on with vaccine makers, regulators, and legislators in a revolving door relationship that has led to real injuries and deaths that get glossed over or covered up.

If you don’t believe this is the case, you have to explain why Congress gave immunity to lawsuits to two industries - Tobacco and Vaccine Makers.

That isn’t it. His history shows he is worried about vaccines and autism. He said he spaced out Barron’s shots because of it.

“Is Trump already shifting t left and letting us down. He’s 0 for 2 today. First he gives us an 0bama appointee to head the VA and now RFK Jr anywhere near the government.

WTF Trump?”

Stop thinking about ideology for a minute and think of what Trump is trying to accomplish. He has chosen two people who have seen the fustercluck in government and want to do something good.

It’s a win.
