Yup!
There are indeed some revered figures in Islam who center on the glorification of God and a non-houri-whorehouse understanding of Eternal Reward.
For instance Rabi’a Al-Adawiya, a woman of I think 8th century Basra whom Muslims consider a saint. (By coincidence I was just discussing her today with my friend Laila, a Catholic Syrian who was sacristan at the morning Mass.)
Rabi’a, a very attractive ascetic who reminds me of St. Mary of Egypt, was a desert mystic, and possibly her most famous quote went something like this:
O Lord my God,
If I love you only from fear of punishment,
Then send me to hell.
If I love you only from desire for rewards,
Then exclude me from Paradise.
But if I love you for Yourself alone,
Then please do not deprive me from gazing upon
The Beauty of Your Face.
Thank goodness he flew into a gun free zone, so no one was injured.
But then the progressives won’t have the propaganda advantage. And they don’t care one whit how many people die for their purposes.
