Michigan man ticketed for warming car in driveway; police chief tells him to ‘drop dead’

A Michigan man is outraged after he was ticketed for heating up his car in his own driveway and then told by the police chief to “drop dead” after he complained to local media.

Taylor Trupiano, who posts on Facebook under the name Nick Taylor, posted a photo of the $128 ticket last week, which he found on his windshield after leaving his car running and unattended in his driveway in Roseville.

“Let’s all take a moment to thank officer dips—t K. Keary for wasting the taxpayer’s money and giving me a ticket for warming up my car in my own damn driveway,” Mr. Trupiano wrote, received more than 13,000 shares.

Well, since you are behind liberal lines, one may, by your post, infer you are catching the liberal mindset too.

Private property. Harming, affecting no one. Tyranny.

For the life of me, I cannot see how anyone could support an ordinance like this and view themselves as anything even remotely close to a conservative.

Why do you say northeast when this happened in Michigan?

Becasue Michigan is in the northeastern part of the United States. Less than 500 miles from the east coast and more than 2400 miles from the west coast. You dont even get the right to say ‘western” until you cross the Mississippi. I live in middle Kansas and am only about 50 mile west of the geographic center of the country, so calling a state that is over 800 miles to the east of me a “mid-western” state would be intentionally inaccurate.

I can leave my car unlocked and running and it can't be stolen. The car will stall if you try to put it in gear without the key being inside the car. It's a push button start with no ignition key.

I get it. A very stupid ordinance -no question. Not remotely close to defending it. Still , the headline was wrong and people all over social media are commenting on something they never actually read.

You make a good point but if that’s the scenario, typically that isn’t a violation of the law against unattended vehicle.

If the guy left his front door unlocked would he be given a ticket for that as well? He is inviting a burglary....

I support your view! Best stated answer to this geographic misnomer I have heard.

If all other traffic laws were equally applied and patrolled, then you might have a very shaky point here. How often are speeders, reckless and/or aggressive drivers, etc never pulled over and ticketed? How about tabs/license plates/ no insurance or license, etc...?

The problem with people who don’t remind LEO re: the law is that they develop a incorrect slant on what they are allowed to do until it takes something of this level to remind them to do their job serve and protect, instead of drive and fleece. Course fines are pretty low hanging fruit, fighting crime is hard.

Ok, I can’t disagree with that. Just FWIW, most people in the northeast don’t consider Michigan part of it. (Lucky Michigan...)

I hate to say I agree. Huge lack of common sense today. On all sides. Of course I am a geezer. I was on over 30 years ago. Many officers today seem to think they are Robo Cop. We would have laughed at them and called them puss$%^.
Not all but enough.

I will put an end to this argument right now:

“The ticket shows ordinance listed as 99006 but there is no ordinance in the city or state that corresponds to 99006. Under the description of the offense, it lists VEH/MOTOR ON UNATTENDED 895. Ordinance 895 is listed as being part of “rodent control” on Roseville”s website.

FOX 2 contacted the Michigan State Police for more information. Lt. Mike Shaw says there is no state law that prohibits letting your car idle with the keys in the ignition.”

Officer who wrote the ticket was in the wrong and should apologize.

Police Chief who told a tax payer to “Drop Dead” should be fired.

Case Closed.

Didn’t idling ordinances begin back in early 2000’s with the idea of curbing CO2 emissions? Now they’ve plastered another justification on top of that.

I want to support the police. But too many of them have nothing to do with “protect and serve”, and don’t care about their oath.

Same here. The ones who devolve into becoming uniformed tax collectors cast a pall over those who still try to make a difference.

My only point was it was a misleading headline. The point being please read the article before commenting on it. Don’t just rely on the headline.

I did read the entire article, obviously, and I don't find the headline misleading at all

Ticketed for leaving his car running and unattended in his driveway. The headline is a lie and it invalidates the article.

The headline is perfectly accurate, and the article is perfectly valid. Thanks anyway.

Your freedom to be an idiot impacts me. Your car gets stolen and MY insurance rates go up due to you being a fool. If my rates were no affected I could care less what you do.

I'm pretty sure the framers of the constitution and Bill of Rights were not overly concerned with what insurance companies were going to be doing 2 centuries later. Your rates are irrelevant to my freedom.
