President Barack Obama reaffirmed his belief that change only happens when ordinary people get involved, get engaged and come together to demand it during his farewell speech on Tuesday.
Addressing thousands of supporters at McCormick Place in Chicago, the same city where he gave his presidential victory speech in 2008, the outgoing president said change was the beating heart of our American idea our bold experiment in self-government.
Obama, who cultivated his empowering brand of American politics in Chicago, said the city had taught him that change starts at the grassroots level. [ ]
At one point, the president was interrupted by chants of Four more years!, to which he smiled and responded, I cant do that.

So says the so called “constitutional lawyer”...
No clue to the bitter end we’re a Contitutional Republic.
Hey Obama, ordinary people did get involved and that is why Hillary did not get elected. Bye and don’t let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out.
Weird man, this Obama. Calling for his Democrat/liberal/Marxist followers to fight against his/their own policies.
But then, again, we live in weird times.
The idiots and illegals indeed fought for a democracy.
We citizens fought for a republic and won!
What an idiot! He and Arne Duncan pushed for a fungus-like growth of charter schools that peeled away elected school boards. Pretty DEMOCRATIC-NOT!
“Great heavens . . . that’s a laser!”
Actually his priorities are pretty well defined though not explicit. He is a Sunni Moslem and he does what is in the interests of Sunni Islam.
Indeed. Our wise founding fathers gave us the electoral college to insure our beautiful republic would never devolve into a democracy.
I bet the Sunnis are pretty ecstatic about the Iranian nuke he’s helping to build.
If only he were going away. But like shingles he’ll just keep popping up years from now.
Well, we now have a vaccine for shingles.
It will probably be that we have to wait for a divine inoculation from Satanic leftism.
I hear you can do it by being given Debate questions in advance. That way “your” kind of Democracy wins.
I will never fight for Democracy. I will fight for my Constitution. Those who want pure Democracy want to shred the Constitution whenever it is popular to do so. No thank you. Give me a Constitutional Republic over a raw might-makes-right Democracy any day. There is a reason the founders rejected a pure Democracy for our government.
The few democracies left in the world are lucky to have survived the last 8 years with Turdbama in charge.
I suspect Hussein is promoting an Iranian nuke attack on Israel which, in the Sultan of DC’s dreams takes out Tel Aviv and/or Haifa. If that happens the retaliation will be swift and total. The Shia powerhouse will quite cease to exist. At the same time Israel should be disabled and open to conquest by its immediate neighbors. This was my take on the Iran deal when it was done. I also suspect that Israel has an ABM capability that is better than what Barak Hussein knows.
Many 30 something y/o people I meet on the job are woefully uninformed about basic civics. I had one fellow ask me sincerely what the difference was between capitalism and communism. He was sincerely asking, but I was stunned that he didn’t already know this. I struggled with figuring how to respond without insulting him or being openly condescending.
He is otherwise a very tech-capable person and cooperative employee. But he doesn’t yet see the downside to having too many people dependent on too much ‘free stuff’.
I mainly focused on the fact that capitalism allows an individual to keep more of their own money and make more decisions for themselves. We didn’t have very much time to get into detail.
I have to wonder if schools ever discuss the positive points of American Capitalism at all.
(T)he first step in the revolution by the working class is to raise the proletariat to the position of ruling class, to win the battle of democracy. Those who insist on transmuting the USAs republic into democracy have that very goal in mind.
The proletariat will use its political supremacy to wrest, by degree, all capital from the bourgeoisie, to centralize all instruments of production in the hands of the State, i.e. of the proletariat organized as the ruling class; and to increase the total productive forces as rapidly as possible.
Of course, in the beginning, this cannot be effected except by means of despotic inroads on the rights of property and on the conditions of bourgeois production
