High winds whipped the Sierra on Sunday as an atmospheric river bringing rain and snow moved through Northern California.
The most impressive gusts blew at 173 mph on a Squaw Valley summit and 175 mph atop a peak in Alpine Meadows.
These bursts were far stronger than the 110 mph winds that were forecast to be the record-breakers for the day.

Put this road on your bucket list and do it in the winter or early spring. Florescent green and gold as far as the eye can see. Massive Valley oaks, the largest oak tree in the world, rolling hills and granite outcroppings.
Allow 5 days to do it right.

I have done Highway 1(101) from Santa Cruz to Seattle 3 times by motorbike, never gets old.
The Gold country is wonderful too...a bit hot for me.
I’m not in any way putting down Northern California because it is a beautiful place, but for my money the most beautiful place of the Pacific Northwest is the Oregon coastline. Spectacular views for miles and miles.

Gold Beach to Bandon. Most beautiful coastline on this planet. Especially love the Point Blanco lighthouse. Got a special attraction to Port Orford area. An October storm will reaffirm your connections. Amen.

I drove the Pacific Coast Highway all the way from Los Angeles to the Columbia River so yeah I drove it. I did it more or less on a whim after getting out of service. I’m sure glad I did it though, I wish everybody could make that Drive.it’s unbelievable,Big Sur man it’s all beautiful.

Thank you. My cousin herded sheep a few miles north of there. You had to drive through the cranberry fields to get to the ranch. He asked me if I wanted to drive the ATV down to the beach to see the sea cows ... yup, gurnseys. LOL.

I did that drive in 1968 when I was 22. I’m Seventy now so I have lost a few of the scenes and names in my mind. However I do remember having to stop over and over again because of the beautiful, beautiful vistas. I’ve traveled through almost all of the western states and that coastline is just breathtaking.
The Frog Jump Jubilee is held during the Calaveras County Fair in early May. The grass will still be green in early May this year. I used to take my kids when they were little and they loved it.
