“There was one performance this year that stunned me — it sank its hooks in my heart,” Ms. Streep said. “Not because it was good; there was nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh, and show their teeth.
“It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter,” she said, referring to a speech in 2015 when Mr. Trump shuddered and flailed his arms, appearing to mock a disabled reporter at The New York Times. “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out of my head, because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.”
Mr. Trump, in his inimitable way, spoke with Patrick Healy of The Times to respond to that attack — and then took to Twitter.

These are ‘fine distinctions’ in perception and comprehension that routinely baffle and confuse Liberals!
Liberals are laughably incapable of distinguishing between what they just saw/heard and what they WANT to see/hear.
If the actual event does not conform to their personally fabricated ‘script’ ... then they just go with what they WANTED to see and hear. Unfortunately, there are SO many low information voters out there, that the ongoing ‘movie’ Liberals produce and foist onto the MSM is accepted wholesale and without question!
Trump won anyway. The people obviously decided that this was not a disqualifying factor.
I doubt very much that Trump was deliberately mocking that guy's disability. I saw Trump doing the same arm-flailing when imitating Ted Cruz during a debate. Trump is just an animated speaker, who uses a lot of hand and arm motions. I like when he did the imitation of a typical politician reading from a teleprompter.
As for the reporter being disabled, so what? Is Trump not allowed to make fun of him because of that? All I ever hear is that disabled people just want to be treated like regular people and that they don't want to be patronized like they were delicate children.
All of a sudden, that "equal treatment" goes out the window when an opportunity presents itself to bash Trump. Now the handicapped reporter is a little flower who needs to be protected.

Siskal and Ebert used to heap so much praise on Streep that I was drawn to assess her for myself. I’m generally not that critical of performances.
I don’t care for her appearance. Her voice is annoying. The roles she picks do not appeal to me. Her performances seem mediocre at best.
It’s like this. Some comedians can stand there and smirk, and their fans will role in the isles laughing. For others, they are just annoyed. For Streep I am just annoyed.
What others see in her, I don’t know. If they like her I’m glad. For me she would be in the bottom 25% of actresses.
These awards programs have long since ceased to appeal to me.
I don’t think I ever watched an academy awards program when it didn’t occur to me that the praise they heaped on each other was so far over the top that it was unseemly.
All these awards for them. How many for our members of the military?
