Jan. 21 Women’s March in Kona ( and Hilo ) set
West Hawaii Today ^ | Jan . 7 , 2017 | Cameron Miculka

“I was pretty upset about it,” she said. “I just decided I wanted to do something.”

That something, she said, led to the creation of a support group, where people could get together and share and support one another, and for Cottle, two issues in particular stood out: reproductive rights and LGBTQ rights.

So she and others formed the group “Matriarchy Rising.”

Not long after the group started, word about a proposed “Women’s March on Washington,” started by Maui resident Teresa Shook, began to spread across the country. As of Thursday evening, more than 170,000 people indicated on Facebook they were going to the Jan. 21 march in the nation’s capital, scheduled for the day after President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. The Kona march will begin at 3 p.m. starting south of Henry Street along the makai side of Queen Kaahumanu Highway. The march will go north along the highway before turning at Palani Road and ending at The Edible World Institute off Kopiko Street.

A Hilo march is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mooheau Bandstand.

As of Thursday evening, 162 people indicated they’d be attending the Kona march with 190 more registering their interest.

Cottle stressed that the event is meant to be an inclusive event for anybody supporting the march’s stated mission that “defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us,” according to the event’s Facebook page.

Only in modern life could Reproductive Rights actually mean the right to kill your child.

no friend , it’s time to follow up with the Trump Revolution and start pushing back , vigorously , all all this Leftist crap that has infested our country for so long .

It grew in power in the first place by being passively ignored . It metastasized. It’s time to deal with the cancer.

Everywhere it pops up . And that’s up to US

I've visited Hawaii once in my life...and have made stops there on a couple of occasions. The one vacation we had there was fun to be sure. But I have no intention whatsoever to return (Florida is just fine with me) and in an era where 14 hour long flights are routine it's unlikely I'll ever again have a "stopover" there.

I know there are fine people living in Hawaii but they are surely a small minority of the state's population.

Hawaii can kiss my a$$!

Just form orderly ranks, ladies(?), and march straight on with courage and gusto. You will make the world a better place!

Hawaii is a set of Islands, right?

Matriarchy Rising? Interesting name. In order to be a matriarch (which I proudly am), one must first copulate with a male, which is anti LGBT, and then actually let the progeny live long enough to be born.

no one. We won everything. protests and marches on both sides make one feel better and sometimes make for a good party, but seldom change anything.

Six trips there. Fortunately, I am on the west coast and it is only 5 hours. I really think I could live there someday.

Hey,whatever floats your boat.I'm seriously considering a condo in Sarasota,FL.The only two places in this country that I would consider living in,or visiting, that are controlled by Rats are New England (my home...family's all here) and New York City (the most exciting city on earth).

The reason I mentioned 14 hour flights is because the several stopovers I made there were made 20-30 years ago on trips to/from Australia and East Asia. Now,there's no need for such a stopover traveling to/from those places.

Oh great, the gym I go to uses the same parking as that "Edible" joint. Saturday is one of my gym days as well.

May need to decide if I want to be obnoxious or just avoid the area.
