I wasn’t sure if I’d slip it in or not, the way FR’s dragging tonight. LOL

The Denims' "The White Ship" was probably recorded at about the same time as the Doors' "The Crystal Ship" and released in 1967. Great example of acid rock.

THE DOORS

”TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX”

”Twentieth Century Fox” was the Doors’ original “L.A. Woman,” a portrait of a Hollywood bombshell, an ode to the “queen of cool” that Morrison croons over a pumping sexy strut.

That would have been a sight to behold! It sounds good and is easy to dance to!

A real bop classic for sure!

I’m running Side One tonight and Side Two tomorrow night. Each entry is 30 minutes apart. Tonight it’s off to the new season of “Sleepy Hollow,” one of my guilty pleasures, when I post the last of tonight’s entries.

It sure is dragging and when it’s not dragging, it’s truncated and ya can’t see but a portion of a page! Frustrating! They need to spend some funds on fixing this. I always think my next music post will be the one that falls off the edge! LOL!

It’s pretty cold, but by next week it’ll be back in the 70s. I like a bit more consistency. LOL!

They may decide not to ever come back there if they don’t like cold, weird weather. LOL!

I can’t see snow falling at Berry, but the wind is sure blowing her feathers around! Brrr...looks cold!

Same problems here. It’s been this way since the site was down for a little while last month. It does get frustrating.

Mmmmmm, 70s sounds niiiiiiiice. But we’ll be happy with the 50s and 60s we’ll get next week.

They’ll be back. They’ve been here quite a bit over the years because my step-brother does a lot of work with Nashville musicians. Plus her mother lives at Spring Hill. They just hadn’t spent a great length of time here each time. They’ve been here since the beginning of Nov. and will head back to CA fairly soon. They kind of like the crazy weather. :-)

The snow has pretty much moved past Rome now but there are still a few occasional flakes. That wind is nasty though. Looks like it’s blowing about as hard as it is here and the wind chill gets vicious. Makes me feel bad for all the critters stuck outside.

THE DOORS

”ALABAMA SONG”

“Alabama Song” reflects the grim and decadent era of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s Berlin in the 1920s. The music creeps along, staggering and delirious as a clutch of drunks whose only mission is to throw another log on the fire consuming their lives.

Debauched as it may be, the original lyric sung by Lotte Lenya, “Show us the way to the next little boy,” proved too much for the aggressively hetero Morrison. (Lou Reed’s sleazy salute to sexual ambiguity, “Walk on the Wild Side,” was still five years in the future.)

The shimmering, exotic sound of “Alabama Song” was created by Ray Manzarek playing a two-octave fretless zither known as a Marxophone. Its haunting tremolo is reminiscent of the gypsy hammer dulcimer known as the cembalom, which gives the tune a similar sonic texture as Anton Karas’ classic “The Third Man Theme” (title song to the 1949 film “The Third Man” starring Joseph Cotton and Orson Welles).

[Publius note: This song is from the opera “The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.” Morrison was a huge admirer of Brecht and Weill, and the whole Weimar idiom. A later song, “People are Strange,” was written in their style. Weill did a clever little rhythmic fillip in the song that Manzarek didn’t bring over to the pop version.]

Been really windy here, too and that’s why there is such a gap in the temp and the wind chill. All the cats had to do is feel that wind and they wanted no part of being outside. LOL!

I sure don’t blame ‘em! I saw posts on FB from galz I worked with and I just smiled. I don’t have to get out and go anywhere when it’s cold...unless I want to. I can get used to this! LOl!

Good evening, spel, and thank you for the Friday Night Edition of the Salsa Addiction Emergency Room! ((HUGS))

And thank you for last week’s editions...since just before Christmas hallucinations abound. Many, many “come see’s”, and then trying to persuade her that nothing is there. Tonight has been the signs across the street with Christmas carols on them. Last night was the missing tree in our yard and the others being marked to cut down....*sigh*....no missing trees, no flagging on them.
