Are the trucks sent over the border “finished”? Or are light trucks produced in Mexico exempt from the Chicken Tax?

Trump calls it a border tax, it is technically a duty/tariff.

Add a tax to every single one that comes in the U.S.

Hey Mexico! See what’s happening to all your manufacturing? Want this to stop and new factories go there?

Then get your people out of here.

They can build where ever they want.

Just add a tax for every one that comes into the U.S.

They do...but for their trucks.

The Corolla plant was in Kommiefornia with GM making the GEO brand for GM. They closed it years ago.

There is one already. The Chicken Tax. Unless manufacturers get around it by assembling foreign made cars states-side. By, IIRC, putting the seats in them over here.

The Chicken Tax applies to light trucks, though, not passenger cars.

We want our factories back AND the Mexican Nationals to repatriate. We want it all and we want it now. We either have borders and a country or we don't.

Screw Mexico. They’d be a failed state if it weren’t for Bush-type patronage/investment and inside our militarily-protected areas.

Toyota should build it in TX and get 3D printing of parts plants going near Austin, where UT has been working feverishly on 3D for years. Mexico is about to seriously de-stabilize and soon.

“Sooooo a GOP president proposing a TAX.”

You are proposing a tax. Anytime a cheap import is allowed in someone loses their job here and American money leaves the US.

That’s a loss, that’s a TAX!

Thanks a lot for screwing Americans with foreign taxes!

I would think companies would be thinking twice about moving jobs out of the US - I’d expect a negative consumer response to companies that do so.

Corolla’s made in and for the US are in many ways different from those made for Central and South America. examples, NO hubcaps, no radios, least expensive, smallest tires available, minimal US mandated safety features, definitely no airbags, AC is almost never requested by buyer. They are called street cars, IOW cars where the owner doesn’t have secure storage for vehicle. They also attract the least attention to mitigate kidnapping and ransoms.

“Why can’t Japan build their cars wherever they want to?”

They can, but we can tax anything we want to as well...

So interesting that the Chinese are threatening us if we dare to stand up and expect to be treated the same way they are treated regarding trade. They really expect Trump to allow them to eventually be in a position to foreclose on the United States of America?

With NAFTA a tax is probably a no go. And while he wants a reworking of NAFTA I don’t think PEOTUS is going to abrogate it over a proposed factory in Mexico

“Why can’t Japan build their cars wherever they want to?”

Here’s the answer: Of course, Japan can build their cars anywhere in the damn world they choose to...

And we can tax the hell out of them when they cross the border.

They have the right... and we have the right...

Cheers!
