ABC Ratings Took Dive When Megyn Kelly Appeared on GMA (Fox Host takes over 3rd hour of NBC Today)

We all know by now that Megyn Kelly opted to sign a comprehensive deal with NBC. It is also clear that competitor ABC News had been one of the top suitors. She even turned down a handsome $100 million package from Fox News to go to the peacock network for far less money. But, could Kelly’s recent appearance on Good Morning America have stopped that network from competing harder for the Fox News host? Mediaite has learned that the minute-by-minute ratings for GMA took a major (and surprising) dive during her segment on November 15 to promote her new book, Settle For More.

Acording to sources with access to those all important and specific network ratings, Kelly appeared for approximately 10 minutes at around 7:31 a.m, during that time, the ratings continued to plummet in particular compared to other days. Network execs across the board apparently expected that the Fox News host’s interview would boost the bottom of the 7 o’clock hour especially since she was discussing controversial allegations against her former boss, Roger Ails. But– that didn’t happen.

“He tried to kiss me three times… and when I rejected that, he asked me when my contract was up,” Kelly recounted to George Stephanopoulos during an exclusive interview.about her first year working as a reporter at Fox. “I wrestled with what to do.” While the interview was certainly interesting, the ratings didn’t pan out for GMA. And, interestingly, this interview came around the same time that Kelly was in contract discussions with other networks including ABC.

Kelly was eager to take the peacock network offer because it allowed more time to spend with her three young children. However, some have been skeptical about Kelly’s ability to maintain a daytime audience, citing the failure of both Katie Couric and Anderson Cooper to do so. She is reportedly slated to take over the third hour of “Today” with her new show. And according to two sources at different networks the downturn in ratings that morning “did not go unnoticed.” With that said, ratings from one morning would not, in and of itself, have changed the competition for the uber-talented Kelly. But with a move that has been called risky and bold, any indicators must have been carefully scrutinized.

To boost ratings, I see a wardrobe malfunction in her future:

Don’t believe the $100 million package from Fox.

Her ratings were rolling downhill....she did not even finish her contract, seems to me her contract was not up until June. Now, all of a sudden, her last day is Friday.

I think Fox pulled the plug early, they have had enough of her.

She was left-leaning and goofy to me for a very long time prior to her attack on President Trump

Oh come on, that was just for ratings. Look at the joy on her face during election night coverage when Fox figured out Trump had won!

But it might have been truthful — it was her offer to Fox and not the other way around. It is still an “offer.” Ignoring the fact that Fox didn’t counter offer so maybe that is when she knew the jig was up and time to move on.

My guess is that she convinced the suits at NBC that she would bring along a lot of “loyal” FOX News fans.
If so, she is in for a really YUGE surprise...most FOX fans couldn’t be forced to watch 5-minutes of NBC if tied to a chair with their eyes duct-taped open.

I think Kelly made a very big mistake.

We stopped watching her about a month into her program. She had promise and we were looking for an alternative to O-Reilly. then she started fade. Hey, Tucker is pretty good.

I’ve posted this a few times: She’s following the, ‘Katie Couric How-To-Trash-Your Career Playbook’ to the letter!

Actually, in reverse. Katie was made for lightweight morning TV banter. She tried to go prime time and nobody took her seriously and she never recovered

On the other hand, like or loathe her act, Megyn is a snarky prime time diva first and foremost. It worked at 8pm. However she is not made out for lightweight morning TV banter about recipes, outfit ideas, and the latest toys. That requires warmth, likeability, and an ability to come across as "one of us". This is NOT her thing. She is better than us, damn it! She's prettier and smarter and wittier, she's not one of the little people! She's the queen bee, not one of the drones!

Doomed.

She’s off-putting. Her expressions are unpleasant.

Fox Channel (not FoxNews channel) allocated her a one-hour special that ended up with dismal ratings. That was one reason FoxNews was not so keen in trying to outbid other networks for her services. They already knew she was not as much of a draw as 'she' thought she was.

Maybe ABC is hoping to get huge ratings from an inevitable Katie/Megyn catfight?

In fairness to Megyn I will always have some sense of gratitude to her as her flagrant attempt to stitch up Mr Trump in the debates was what got me firmly in board the Trump train. His superb attack on PC culture showed to me he was the real deal and understood exactly what was going on.

“Only Rosie O’Donnell’ :)

Three words which destroyed her career.

Good point. Whatever else you can say about her, she's not "Miss Warmth."

The FNC gig was ideal for her skillset and personality.

She's in the kind of bind Couric was a few years back: she wants more, but the available promotions aren't good fits for her talents.

The only person who genuinely likes Megyn Kelly is that chubby guy Chris Stirewalt...who seemingly longs for her with an unrequited love.
