Exclusive: Trump team seeks agency records on border barriers, surveillance

In a wide-ranging request for documents and analysis, President-elect Donald Trump's transition team asked the Department of Homeland Security last month to assess all assets available for border wall and barrier construction.

The team also asked about the department's capacity for expanding immigrant detention and about an aerial surveillance program that was scaled back by the Obama administration but remains popular with immigration hardliners. And it asked whether federal workers have altered biographic information kept by the department about immigrants out of concern for their civil liberties.

The requests were made in a Dec. 5 meeting between Trump's transition team and Department of Homeland Security officials, according to an internal agency memo reviewed by Reuters. The document offers a glimpse into the president-elect's strategy for securing the U.S. borders and reversing polices put in place by the Obama administration.

Trump's transition team did not comment in response to Reuters inquiries. A spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection declined to commen

And so the journey to making America great again begins.

Trump is just loving where he's at right now.  His competence and ability to get things done is a couple orders of magnitude greater than Obama's.  And he knows it.  Lots of big improvements will come easy.  Just put the right person in place.  The federal government has needed someone like Trump for so long that there's a lot of low-lying fruit to pluck.

I'm glad Boobamba has gone off the deep end with his temper tantrum: Trump can use Boobamba's foolishness and lies to further Trump's agenda.  Always great to have a weak and stupid enemy as a foil.  People will notice the contrast: competent vs. incompetent... getting things done vs. hopey/changey talk.

Imagine.  Trump is a guy who's lived his whole adult life making deals: deals with tough business negotiators and with tough environmental groups as in Scotland where he built his beautiful golf course.  For years they delayed his changes there, but Trump prevailed.

The timeworn MSM and GOPe storyline... "But he's not qualified to be President"... is even more laughable now. Trump has proven his skill in governing -- and his administration isn't even in office yet.

The entire free world will eventually follow his lead because it only makes sense.  The Canadians for example are now looking seriously at a conservative PM.

Every morning after spinning up my computer I surf on over Trump's twitter page and marvel at how he's moving the country and dissing Obama and other opponents.

It's a beauty to behold because I know this guy is on my side and on the side of all Deplorables.

i'm lovin' it

“....ensures that all government records are kept....”. You mean like “NO GUNS ALLOWED” signs prevent shootings? ;-)

I am more concerned about ghost agents leftover from the Obama administration deleting files and destroying data that could be used to prosecute ALL of them, including Obama.

Boobamba has gone off the deep end with his temper tantrum.....consummate dealmaker Trump can use Boobamba's foolishness and lies to further Trump's agenda. Nice insights.

Our Soon to be PRESIDENT TRUMP is not only setting the ground work to begin to MAGA, he is also training future Presidents (if we should be so lucky) in what they should do to continue to keep the ship sailing on stormy/calm seas. How many past PE have attempted to begin their own administration in this fashion? OK, even though he is coming in after one of the most CORRUPT regime’s imaginable, but in the future, all PE’s should take note that just taking an oath is not all the office is cracked up to be. There is much more involved than taking a vacay ever year to Hawaii and signing EOs

Well for the most part, serious people working for ICE, Border Patrol, etc., are loving it. However, desk liberals in DC at these agencies are not loving it.

You make a good point, V K. Trump is giving a clinic for future President-Elects.

And looking back, can you imagine a guy like Cruz or Rubio taking the reins as Trump has done and winning over so many top-flight people for his Cabinet?

Call it what you will: experience in business, running a large global company, not being beholden to lobbyists, etc. His GOP opponents were just rookie tryouts for the farm team.

Son of a gun, he’s really going to do it! I heard on one of the radio talkshows a few weeks ago, can’t remember which one it was, that Trump already had surveyors working on the Texas-Mexico border early last month too.
