A leading US Republican says she fears for the future of her seven grandchildren with Donald Trump in the White House.
Christine Todd Whitman, head of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under George W Bush, accused Mr Trump of ignoring compelling science.
And she warned that his threat to scrap climate protection policies puts the world's future at risk. Trump supporters say rules on climate and energy are stifling business.
But Ms Todd Whitman says the US must find ways of promoting business without unduly harming the planet.

“LEADING REPUBLICAN” my Aunt Fanny! Whitman has been a NOBODY and utterly ignored, for more decades than she cares to admit to; the damned RINO!
Somebody is hyperventilating too much CO2. Get a grip woman.
Trump keeps making all the right enemies.
Who needs crazy democrats like Nanna Pelosi when ‘republicans’ like Whitman, McCain and Graham
are lined up to destroy the Trump administration before The Donald is even sworn in?
Top Republican? Maybe in her own mind.
"Top...Republican."
“Top Republican”? She holds no political office at all and has not for quite some time.
Fake news headline.
Perhaps she could take her children and grandchildren to another country where they would all be safe. NK comes to mind.
Fixed it.
I hope to see giant smokestacks lining the horizon, as far as the eye can see...belching out yuge clouds of CO2 and water vapor.
None of the Bushes or their minions were ever real Republicans, but were always nothing more than GOPe, RINO, PC, DC-insider, traitorous, back-stabbing, Uniparty scum. It’s why Yeb! couldn’t win a single primary vote even though he spent 150 million dollars.
Christine Todd Twitman? I’d forgotten about that mental midget.
CC
Whitman’s a “top Republican”? Apparently, “top Republican” = one willing to regurgitate the lib line.
And don’t forget, everyone complained about how liberal Bush admin policies were, WHILE they were doing them, so wording for Bush is hardly big credit.
Anybody with three names needs to be kicked to the curb.
Your grandchildren with four need to be kicked in the crotch.
You are a useless postule on the face of America Christine.
“Compelling.” We must be compelled to believe it or... something?
This is the first time I have heard of Whitman being referred to as a “leading Republican.” When did she get that job? Was she awarded the title by the GOPe? or by the MSM?
Apparently it was the BBC.
They would do better to worry about their own problems at home.
Then do that. I’m serious, stop trying to find new ways to tax business (which is just a tax on consumers) and actually find better ways of doing things which saves businesses money AND helps your agenda.
But that’s not really what your agenda is all about. Your agenda is about making huge grants to study penguin sunbathing habits and how they are affected by glaciers that have been moving for 40,000 years. It is about crippling our energy output so that crappy Chinese made solar panels look attractive. It is about turning food into crappy fuel, or hobbling consumers with cars that can’t take them more than a hundred miles from home without a 2 hour stopover to recharge.
So, honestly, since you can’t master basic economic theory nor basic physical sciences, you huddle with others under a catch all umbrella which you support with such wonderful statements like ‘settled science.’ Guess what, it was ‘settled science’ that the world was flat, that the earth was at the center of the solar system and the universe. All three of those had MANY more adherents than ‘weather’, err, ‘global climate change.’
Whitman worried about the environment??? Wish she had been more worried when she told FDNY, NYPD, iron workers, excavators and many others that going to Ground Zero was absolutely positively safe to enter and work in. Might have saved a lot of lives, lost later to cancers of various types. Might have saved a lot of money too.
St one point, Ted Cruz's mommy had five names.
