Migrants in U.S., Mexico fret about Trump threat to halt remittances

In central Mexico’s Mezquital Valley, new pick-up trucks bounce along unpaved roads and U.S.-style houses are springing up alongside cornfields. But people are afraid that remittances from family members abroad, a primary source of funding for such purchases, may soon dry up.

During the holiday season, even as money and gifts have flowed into the area from relatives working in the United States, residents have fretted about what a Trump presidency will mean for them and family members working in the United States.

During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump said he would stop allowing wire transfers of money out of the United States from Mexican nationals unless Mexico agreed to fund a border wall. Migrants in the United States are expected to have sent a record $27 billion in remittances into Mexico in 2016, according to BBVA Bancomer, an increase of more than $2 billion over 2015.

“you should see them lining up at WalMart to send Moneygrams”

Another reason not to shop with the “Arkansas A$$holes!”

Do you need a sign to point you to your zipper when you go to the lady’s room?

Oh, so they’re no longer “undocumented immigrants”, they are “migrants”.

Maybe they should migrate back to May-hee-co.

develop a system , wherein call center volunteers can work from their homes .

How many retired Americans and older folks would love to participate in an effort like this ?

Actually participating in DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM...

Aren’t you tired of just watching stuff talked about on TV ? I am .
It’s time to act . WE are the teeth of the Trump revolution . It’s time to put the bite back into the bark .

“It’s Moneygram . more than WalMart”

Yeah, I know, it’s like having a post office in a Walmart. But Walmart is making a buck off of the process, so they are as guilty as the actual service provider.

All remittances that are sent electronically from here to Mexico are automatically subject to garnishment, until the sender gets a written court order showing that s/he is not here illegally, to give to Walmart, whomever, lifting the order.
Maybe the IRS agents hired to enforce Obamacare/eat out our substance need work?

I’m sure the usual “That will be impossible!” resident American’ts will chime in: `The wall will never be built.’ `Trump will never be president.’ `No no no!’
Just watch and see how it’s done.

Where I live you are going to meet illegals, probably daily. I've met many who were good, hardworking, skilled, and well integrated, while many, many, others are very much not so admirable.

While I would not wish any ill to the good guys I can only speculate that, having returned to mexico, or whichever other stagnant mire they were escaping from, those people might provide just the spark of revolution at home necessary to make this "good neighbor" thing work.

Example from the article:
...If they return our migrants, there’ll be more poverty, because up there they have work and help maintain us,” she said. “Here there is no work.”
...and significant political elements on two continents think this should be MY problem??
