Obama has few options to protect young immigrants

WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama is under pressure during his final weeks as president to do something — anything — to secure the future of hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought to the U.S. as children who could face deportation under the Trump administration. His options appear few.

At least 50 congressional Democrats are pushing Obama to take the rare if not unprecedented step of granting pardons to the young immigrants who have stepped forward to identify themselves in exchange for a promise that they'd be safe from deportation. The White House, though, has repeatedly ruled that out.

Several Republican lawmakers are crafting legislative proposals to solidify the place of these immigrants, sometimes called Dreamers, before Donald Trump takes office Jan. 20. Similar efforts have repeatedly failed, even with Democratic majorities in both chambers of Congress, so the likelihood of a legislative Hail Mary isn't great.

That leaves more than 741,000 immigrants wondering what's next.

Trump's plans for Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program are unclear. As a candidate, he pledged an immediate end to what he called an "illegal executive amnesty." But as the president-elect, he has softened that stance.

They must choose to be either Mexican nationals or Americans. I do not believe we should allow dual citizenship.

No, his obligation is to protect Americans, not to protect the individuals who are streaming into the country and breeding like rabbits.

Illegals or legal immigrants from 3rd world countries do not contribute more than they cost us.

The USA is not a philanthropic organization.

These hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought to the U.S. as children have no legitimate quarrel with Americans who enforce U.S. law. Their quarrel is with those who brought them to the U.S. illegally and encouraged them to stay in violation of U.S. law, and it is they from whom these immigrants must seek redress. These immigrants have known all along--or ought to have known--that they were in the U.S.A. illegally and were subject to deportation, and they have had ample time to prepare themselves.

President Trump must keep his promise to deport all illegal immigrants.

The euphemism "dreamers" for illegal immigrants may convince some to ignore the crime of violating U.S. immigration law, but such propaganda must be recognized as merely a means of ignoring U.S. law and packing the voter registration laws in favor of the nefarious, anti-American, corrupt, crime-ridden Democrat Party.

First, How can the DNC believe that Obie can "pardon" a foreign citizen of another country? That doesn't pass the smell test - similar to the Judicial branch claiming that all citizens of the world come under the US Constitution (granted - only certain clauses).

Second, Obie himself said upwards of 17 times in recorded media history that he had NO LEGAL AUTHORITY TO MAKE THIS GRANT OF EXCEPTION!!

Obie will need to pardon himself while he is in the process of all this illegal activity.

THE LIAR-IN-CHIEF DOES NOT HAVE THE "CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED"

NO person shall ‘cost’ another one thin cent...even fought a war to stop the same; doesn’t seem to have made a difference. But, we haven’t had a Republic, let alone Constitution, in a L-O-N-G time.

States, D.C., world can all say different but, as per my 1st point, there’s something that, if we still followed, would show otherwise.

Welfare (corp or not), foreign ‘aide’\programs, plethora of any other number of fees\taxes\fines\etc.

A shameful article that lies by omission. Precisely another reason that Trump won the election.

A lot of them actually came over on their own as unaccompanied minors. Then they claim to have been here for a long time. They don’t require proof of anything so they get by with it.

Illegals ARE NOT immigrants.

Robbers ARE NOT 'house guests'.

Gang-banger drug-dealers ARE NOT pharmacists.

Grow up Alicia A. Caldwell... fake pity parties that only benefit liberal elites are O-VAR. TACKY. EXPOSED FOR WHAT THEY ARE...

Now ILLEGAL ALIENS should be packing already.
