(CNN) President Barack Obama will deliver his farewell address to the nation on January 10 from his home city of Chicago, the President announced in a statement Monday.
"I'm thinking about them as a chance to say thank you for this amazing journey, to celebrate the ways you've changed this country for the better these past eight years, and to offer some thoughts on where we all go from here," Obama wrote.
President Obama said he was following the precedent set by George Washington, who penned a farewell address to the American people over 220 years ago.

I guarantee that the farewell speech will quickly morph into a “farewell tour” that will last well into autumn.
I doubt we will be able to hear it over the weaping and wailing and gnashing of teeth — from the media covering it.

Off topic, we had some snowflakes at the family party last week. My mom is a strong Trump supporter but was upset that I might start an argument and basically told me that I wasn’t entitled to an opinion.
I finally made an offer. “I won’t start anything, but if they do, I will finish it.”
In typical snowflake fashion, nothing was said. But all of us Trumpers had a great time.

This is a good choice... Washington made the choice to voluntarily give up power and move on to the next phase in his life. Obama needs to do the same. This is a hopeful sign Obama will end his term with dignity.
