Two weeks ago I published an open letter here to a long-time, long-distance friend after I learned she had voted for Donald Trump. I stated that I realized I never really knew her, that I couldnt fall back on the thought that she lived in the Rust Belt and experienced economic anxiety (she doesnt, and surely isnt) and that Im just being honest when I say we can no longer be friends.
There was a lot of response on social media and elsewhere, most of it positive, much of it from people in far more difficult situations ― people who opposed Trump and were struggling with relationships theyve had with parents, siblings, children or closer friends who voted for Trump. Many expressed how the letter articulated thoughts similar to their own, no matter how differently (or similarly) they may navigate this in their own lives.

Where (under what law or regulation) is it forbidden?
“But even if that werent true, why would you give a chance (as this critic put it) to someone who pandered to those who hate you? Trump courted evangelicals and promised to appoint judges to overturn the historic Obergefell ruling on marriage equality (and he has publicly opposed marriage equality since 2000).”
The homosexual activists consider evangelicals their enemy.
The evil tortures, rapes, and murders that these perverts carry out on children represent actions that no human being is capable of naturally. They have to be committed by people who are mentally deranged, drug-induced, or demonically controlled. Humans don’t naturally do these kind of atrocious acts.
But people like this author can politely and calmly advocate such atrocities as if they are a moral right.
Raping and torturing children in attempts to get them and their parents to renounce the Christian faith is something the left’s allies in the midlle east are doing NOW.
Homosexuals like this one DEMAND their sham marriages be recognized so they can access children to molest, rape, and torture them. Then they share the videos of such depraved actions with their homosexual FRIENDS.
When this author talks about women’s rights, he is advocating the ripping of the delicate bodies of living babies into pieces and selling their body parts to the highest bidder.
Voting for Trump is huge threat to people like this author who fears the left’s war on babies and children may have a bit of a set back.
This person acts like his friendship is something valuable. Personally, I have not even the slightest interest in his friendship.
And it expired on 1/20/2009. It is non-renewable.
I have ‘unfriended’ several amoral bigoted democrats...so what?
I have no time for people who cannot tell right from wrong.
“They are lost to reason, and they scare me. They have no idea that they are really looking in the mirror and talking about themselves.”
IMO you are right too be scared. These people consider those who disagree with them to be sub-human and given the opportunity would send them to concentration camps. Not only that, they would feel very good about themselves for doing it.
They don't realize that we could have thrown a hissy about obama, but we carried on and didn't pee our pants every day.
We could have demonstrated like they do, but we've got jobs. Demonstrating against every word Trump says is good since it makes demonstrating useless by weakening it. Just like riots. Useless except for giving crazy people something to do.
During the Chinese cultural revoluton the attitude this guy has found family members turning family members into the authorities. These attitudes are really very, very dangerous.
And AGW is the cult’s religion and Identity Politics is its holy prophet
And abortion is it’s holy sacrament.
They only hanged other Puritans as witches, so I guess they weren’t all bad.
Every liberal is a violent totalitarian thug.
Its not like we have our own things going on . . . like being an AGW denier . . .</sarcasm>
The Puritans would probably have appreciated a little Global Warming in the 17th Century.
The #1 disappointment I have in Trump. . . although I am so everlastingingly glad he won. . . that picture is a real discouragement. . . sorry to see it on FR.
He’s from New York City.
“Hes from New York City.”
I know, and I’m from San Francisco. He didn’t pretend to oppose the homosexual agenda, although I hope he might follow through on his pledge to protect the Christians from the current assault on our first amendment rights.
But I just don’t like the whole “tolerance” line, it’s a lie.
Don’t like the day care agenda, either. That’s about it.
Still very glad he won, and hopeful that he’ll take wisdom from some good counselors.
The Bushes, most of the GOP congress and the Beltway establishment are pro-gay. Don’t kid yourself.
The excerpt is all you need. Trump will kill every gay, rape every woman, imprison every black, and deport every Mexican. And you voted for him because that's what you want too. In fact, you'll enjoy doing all those things too. I thought I knew you.
Pure echo-chamber / bubble thinking. Bonus quote: "Im happy to report, in fact, that this was the only friend of mine who voted for Trump, including among Republican and conservative friends."
I would have replied, “Mike, you’re a gay man whose only real claim to fame is outing other gay men out of spite. Now that I think about it, I’m not sure why we were ever friends in the first place.”
