My suspicion is that McCain, like Hillary, like Graham, has become ridiculously wealthy on Saudi and Gulf States money - for his support of the Muslim Brotherhood and other radical Sunni elements. Dirty American politicians - and McCain is amongst the dirtiest - have played the Sunni/Shiite conflict to amass personal wealth far beyond anything they could possibly legitimately earn.
Russia - with its own interests - outplayed them and stood in the way. So the Saudis are calling in their investments in American politicians (some failed like Hillary, some still active, including Obama and McCain) to do battle with Russia. And now Trump, with a true American interest as policy (as opposed to personal interest in amassing personal wealth), is pissing in their corn flakes...and really pissing off the Saudi princes...who own McCain.
There is too much coincidence that McCain is such an appeaser of the wrong stuff and opposition to pro-American activities.

The closest thing McCain should get close to regarding an act of war would be something exploding in his Depends.

We toppled six countries in the middle east by supplying terrorist and opening the way for terrorist to take over. McCain would likely have done those same actions and likely went into Russia.
