President-elect Donald Trumps future counselor said she is 'amused' by the chilled response she has received so far as she begins searching for a private school for her four children in Washington.
Kellyanne Conway is concerned her work for Trump may impact her school search upon relocating to the nations dark-blue capital, The New York Post reported Wednesday.
I would not characterize myself as worried so much as amused by the silence and sighs on the other end of the phone when friends and allies have made preliminary inquiries on my behalf, she told the Post while visiting schools in the District.
Noting many private school handbooks and websites tout diversity and open-mindedness, Conway said: For some, there is comfort in sameness." Conway also said she is surprised by the flood of people who have offered to help her family during its transition to D.C.
When asked if her family is also house hunting in D.C., Conway replied: First things first."
A source told the Post that Conway is "asking everyone with connections to D.C. schools for help."
Trump announced Conway's new role as his counselor last week, adding she would work with senior leadership to help advance his administrations goals.
Kellyanne Conway has been a trusted advisor and strategist who played a crucial role in my victory, he said in a Dec. 22 statement. "She is a tireless and tenacious advocate of my agenda and has amazing insights on how to effectively communicate our message."
D.C. voted for Hillary Clinton over Trump, giving her 90 percent of the vote.
Are we really going to go back to the Rosa Parks days? This is segregation. Pure and simple.
And this problem Conway is having? She’d have it in Los Angeles private schools too. Progressive or bust.
There is no one as intolerant as a lib.
Starting a school would be an interesting project. Most of the top private schools are in Northwest or the western suburbs. This reflects the demographic realities of DC over the past 40 or 50 years, but the situation is changing rapidly. Gentrification is moving fast, and DC's affordable housing is now mostly on the east side. A number of the name-brand private schools now run shuttle buses from east side locations, notably Capitol Hill but some other locations as well. There is a growing clientele on the east side.
There are some private schools on the east side, mostly Catholic. St. Anselm's, which is one of the most academically rigorous schools in the area, DeMatha and Gonzaga are the best known. A number of others are improving rapidly. I think the market would support some new starts, especially if they are high quality.
It's late in the game to launch the suggestion, but it would be nice to see some east side neighborhoods "adopted" by Trump people in the same way that the Kennedy crowd made Georgetown fashionable. The east side is never going to compete with the west side in prestige housing, but some of the neighborhoods are undiscovered gems at affordable prices. More good school options is one of the things needed to accelerate the rebound.
It is around here. Just as Catholic schools were commonplace when I lived in northern Ohio.
Your choice. We have quite a good Baptist school near us, and if any of my children persuades me that he or she would derive some massive benefit from school attendance, that's where they would go.
It would be interesting to know if this is one of the schools Ms. Conway's proxies have scouted for her. It could be they are "apolitical" until a top Trump advisor shows an interest.
A large number of them are available in Virginia. I have no personal knowledge of Maryland.
I’m sick and tired of the left making fun of Trump and call him a tyrant. If they keep it up they need to be put in camps!
Another point. I’ve homeschooled for many years. Off and on. It is not possible to home “school” the unwilling child. If her kids aren’t into it, they won’t do it. If she wants formal schooling for her kids, and she has that right, she may need to hire an institution for the purpose. And if her kids are bright they can handle the lib crap. They teach that at public schools anyway.
Unschooling is a thing, but in my opinion it is best for a very self-starting, bright, motivated child (who will organize his day around practicing his expert sport ability, his potentially lucrative hobby, and reading serious books, and yes, that is how my college student lived, through high school. He couldn’t be bothered with the boredom and social idiocy of high school. He practiced his sport 4 hours a day, and his hobby which is now his major the rest of the time, adding reading in there - yes, and video gaming with his far flung friends).
Is there a father? Homeschooling doesn’t have to be done by a woman.
Start a school at the White House for Kellys 4 kids, Barron Trump and Reinces kids and anyone else who wants to join.....
Hire excellent tutors!
Drive safe. I remember those sad times when my parents lived far away and I’d leave, never knowing if I’d see them again. Picture a sad face emoticon here.
George T. Conway III is a lawyer with the New York firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. They have four children, including a set of twins.
My daughter made the exact same decision when she and her now X-husband moved to N VA. (several years ago) She remains there because of the excellent school. Would be glad to give appropriate people the name of one of the best choices and neighborhoods.
I’ve heard of St. Anselm’s, but don’t know much about it. I am more familiar with The Heights (Catholic) school in Maryland. But both of those schools are boys-only, and if I am not mistaken, Kellyanne has girls as well. I wonder if there are any good, Catholic girls schools in that area...
Regards,
“D.C. voted for Hillary Clinton over Trump, giving her 90 percent of the vote.”
Yep, swampland.
Georgetown Visitation is superb.
Republicans hold majorities in the House and Senate so there have to be tons of GOP assistants and staffers in D.C. Wonder where their children attend school.
She might be busy.....
Another excellent Catholic school for Girl’s is Stone Ridge - but it is enough of an “elite” school that it may be a bit P.C. - it’s a suspicion and I have no hard evidence except that it is in D.C.
I’m glad to hear it. Here on Long Island, finding a good, not outrageously liberal girls’ Catholic school is nearly impossible. The boys have Chaminade, which is definitely NOT liberal (and where my own oldest went), but the girls’ schools are all run but extremely liberal nuns.
Had I had a girl, I don’t think I would have sent her to any of them. She would have been home schooled like my younger son.
Regards,
